  2. So A LOT of stuff going on the past year, finally things look to be settling down! so hopefully getting back to business, more playing with the car and days out ( fingers crossed) So my ex wrote my daily off for me, just before she picked up her brand new car, her and new her partner got for free.... 😑 Insurance company said it was worthless and gave me pennies for it🤬 so I borrowed some cash, bought a c class mercedes estate locally. Body wise it was a bit tired looking, the guy seemed to love parking IN curbs, and the front had a funny ding. But interior was almost flawless, brilliant! Paid a few grand for it, then shortly after realised having 3 children in the back ( 2 in Car seats, 1 sat in the middle) a c class isn't actually very wide🙈 so after a year of my eldest boy being squashed in the middle, it was time for a new car. So on the hunt for a car wide enough for equivalent of 3 car seats, that isn't a shagged out zafira or something alike. So I settled on a Mondeo. Eyeing up a nice one at a car sales place yea it'll do the job, then as I'm scrolling eBay a particular Mondeo appeared, only down the road in Abergavenny, an cheaper than this one I been looking at. Me an the old chap Go to take a look, it's near flawless, an tidy money too, so a deal was done and my sensible daily wide enough for the kids turned into a Mondeo st220, 3 litre V6! 🤣 Road tax is pretty much £400 a year, same as the Merc, but insurance... Well. I'd like to see your estimates.... Incidentally, There's a c class mercedes estate if anyone wants a tidy cheap car?

  7. The other night I was invited out for a night with the lads. I told my wife that I would be home by midnight, “I promise!” As time went by, the hours flew and the beers and rums disappeared far too quickly. Around 3 a.m., a bit loaded, I headed for home. Just as I got in the door, the cuckoo clock in the hallway started up and cuckooed 3 times. Quickly, realising my wife would probably wake up, I cuckooed another 9 times. I was really proud of myself for coming up with such a quick-witted solution, in order to escape a possible conflict with her. (Even when totally smashed… 3 cuckoos plus 9 cuckoos totals 12 cuckoos= MIDNIGHT!) The next morning she asked me what time I got in, I told her “MIDNIGHT”…. She didn’t seem pissed off in the least. Whew, I got away with that one! Then she said “We need a new cuckoo clock.” When I asked her why, she replied, “Well, last night our clock cuckooed three times, then said “oh shit” Cuckooed 4 more times, cleared its throat, cuckooed another three times, laughed, cuckooed twice more, and then tripped over the coffee table and farted. 🍻🍻🍻🥃🥃🥃🥃

  8. So back in the day, maybe 89 or 90 ish I had my trans am in the "my car section" I had to send a photo in and and a write up, via snail mail, and a few months later there it was, I was well chuffed. I always got custom car and street machine magazine, just because I was an ex southend boy of the 70s and early 80s. Happy days

  11. What a great day at RETROFORD Show today. Once again Tennants Auctioneers were the hosts with prizes sponsored by Car Storage Yorkshire. Sarah Crabtree came to give the cars a once over and choose the one that she would like to drive home today. The sun did shine most of the day and the odd shower did not put off the masses of visitors or exhibitors. Come prize giving Sarah's choice was a lovely Anglia van, great choice take a look yourself at one of the pictures. Taking car of show though was OSFs Vista Estate. It was not expected as there were plenty of stunning motors but Vista Estate always pulls in a crowd. A big thankyou to John and Andy at RETROFORD for putting on a great show, to Car Storage Yorkshire for sponsoring and judging the prizes and of course to Sarah Crabtree for her stories and laughter. If you missed it there is another one later in the year, check out RETROFORD magazine or look out next year.

  12. Luckily dad's a mechanic and worked on these in their day so is quite happy to have a tinker with bits, the amount of service history and receipts I have I know it's been looked after so for now, I'm happy, time will tell though😂😂

  14. Very true Dave. It seems people like things bigger as it makes them feel safer whilst driving standard get worse. SUVs are in abundance on our roads and 4x4s never see any slippy stuff. If we carry on like this everyone will want one of the Ford SUVs below and we will need another section @Vista in the OSF website garage 🤣 This Ford SUV was ahead of its time by over 80 years. Parking problems solved!

  15. Newbie here. Thought I’d pop in to introduce myself. Currently restoring a 1980 Escort MK2 Ghia 4 door in Cosmos Blue. Work is currently on hold due to me having open heart ❤️ surgery 3 weeks ago, but my brain is still ticking away waiting for the day I’m well enough to continue refitting the interior and bumpers. Will post pictures when I can. First car was a 1973 Escort 1300E, and my dad bought a MK2 1300L in 1977 which I remember collecting with him. He was going to buy a Ghia in Cosmos Blue, but changed his at the last moment because of the extra cost over a 1300L. Hence why I’m restoring my Ghia to give him the car he always wanted.

  20. When I was a youngster I lived in Hong Kong for a couple of years (dad was in the Navy), we returned to Cornwall in 1973 and on returning dad had to buy a car, against my Grandad's advice of a Mk3 Cortina he bought a Singer Gazelle (HEJ972G), it was okay but not great and beige. Roll on to 1977 and dad decided to change said Gazelle and opted for a burgundy Renault 16TS (TOR668H I think), this was different, front wheel drive, column change, twin choke carb, electric windows, comfy ride and seats, etc, we all loved it. Roll on to 1979 and another move, this time to Hampshire and as we lived 15 miles away from school I was always picked up by mum or dad, this was before 'schools runs' were the norm and I always felt a bit embarrassed, imagine my horror when dad turned up in a white Austin Maxi (MOY298L), I hated it and wouldn't speak to dad on the journey home, it was bad and needed the gearbox changing after about 2 months, I have no good memories so let's roll on to 1982ish and dad bought another Renault 16 albeit the lesser spotted TL model but still a nice car and one that I was old enough to be able to drive whilst we owned it. It was eventually replaced by a Renault 14TL. Now my dad passed away nearly 6 years ago and on having a butchers at model cars on the bay, I came across this little fella, made a couple of bids and won him, the plan is to strip and repaint as per the burgundy 16TS and place next to a photo my late dad, sentimental I know but why not and thanks for reading! PS, Does anyone have an idea on the best way to reattach the chassis to the body once the mushroom heads on the posts have been drilled out?

  21. Great story mate. I get your sentiments entirety. Lost my dad at 13 and he had a mk2, now I own one, feel that bit closer to him. Go on Twitter if you have it and speak to Diecast Addicts, some cracking restorations on there and advice. I collect a few myself.

  31. I can give you some info, but you won't like it. It is a very nice car especially in blue but it is rather unreliable (and complex). Someone over here bought one many years ago and soon it started to misbehave. After going to a few independant garages (who couldn't find anything) he went to a Ford garage. Mechanics came to see the car but when he said he had issues they ran away as quickly as they could. Electronics are not good, issues with wiring looms and instrument panel, to replace spark plugs you have to remove the inlet manifold I believe. Engine has to be topped up with oil so check that every week.

  32. Apparently out of 4600 ish made, only around 1700 left. Also, According to a reliable source, it's actually a rarer car than an Aston martin DB9 ( in st220 form anyway) which would also explain the lack of information on this model 😂 Bloody superb drive though! And with the full stainless exhausts it sounds a bit angry too😍

  42. Thank you to all. I’m getting better by the day. Can’t drive for 4 more weeks and no lifting for 3 months. So much to do to get car roadworthy. I’ve resigned myself to the fact my car won’t be done this summer. I have any 2 classics that are roadworthy so I’ll be using them for local shows

  47. Agreed @Ray. It's so similar to November but very small. Many of the suppliers have said they don't get the footfall to pay for the stand as much as they do in November. It's really a money maker for the NEC. On the flip side it would be good to catch up with Stuart @Abbeyfields Insurance. Did he say he was raffling off the RS2000 😂 I hope you do well Stuart 👍
