Mk1 Gearbox support tunnel brace

Recommended Posts

Stiffens the tunnel in the area the load from the rear gearbox mount is borne by the shell.

They all come with that brace as standard I think........but as the T5 box doesn't fit in a standard tunnel, I would say no. I'm not sure if the T5 fits in the larger auto tunnel either, can anyone confirm?

I remade mine once the first fix was completed in the big tunnel. Just helps to disperse any loading.

I beg to differ on this. By fitting a new larger tunnel. It's not needed. As new tunnel has enough strength in it. So crossmember brace is not req. And therefore doesn't comprise the intergerty of the body shell.

Automatic escorts have the larger tunnel as standard and also have this brace fitted from the factory so if Ford intended one to be there then it's meant to be there.

Yes Automatic tunnel is bigger. And has brace fitted. I meant a new larger tunnel welded in is of thicker steel so it's not needed.
