Tour of the Moor 2018

Now all the shows are over with for 2017, I can look into TOTM 2018.

I've planned a route which is double the distance of last year. Will need to drive it though to check for suitablity.

Question to you lads and ladies is what to do on the Sunday after the tour. Option 1 is show and shine with other car clubs. Or. Option 2 is an activity stop at the South Devon Railway.

Sunday last year was a bit of a flop for a show and shine and with River dart not allowing traders I don't feel it will attract any other car enthusiasts. So for those who want to get away early they can but for those who wish to stay we can possibly enjoy a family day out at the railway.

So looking for some feedback from you before I book anything. Riverdart will most probably be used as base camp again and once the Classic ford show date has been released the camp site can be reserved and a date for the tour announced.

The extra distance on the run is a great idea, i know you mentioned finding somewhere to eat on it, personally im not that bothered about doing that,  as for sunday, im not bothered about show and shine sunday (if it is like last year you'd have seen most of the cars over the weekend) or railway, id rather pack up and head off .

I want to come on one of these but the car wont be ready for a year or 2.

I'd look a bit of a knobber chasing you lot in my Seat Leon

Doesnt matter , rock up , pitch tent, bbq and few beers, talk some bollox, great for motivation on the build, as with most of the shows the camping with your mates is one of the highlights

as to tour, longer is better but set cars off in small groups, by doing this you solve the problem of places to stop that can cope with all the cars in one go. you can use a smaller venue as one group is leaving the next is arriving

as to sunday most people who have travelled  will want to leave. get the local clubs to do a show and shine. the people who did the tour who didn't travel will stay and the ones who travelled might stay a bit longer to look at some different cars

Perhaps if you do end up splitting the cars into groups it could be by speed? I just wanted to potter through the moor in my Cortina but I ended up having to gun it just to keep up with the Escort boys last time.

Speedy group, normal group and pottering group. All drivers self-diagnose their preferred pace beforehand and join the appropriate group and agree to keep to the pace of that group? I get that I had my own set of directions and I could have simply let everyone else tear off without me (which happened anyway haha). But I actually like driving as a group and part of the fun of any tour is touring with other OSF drivers.

Yeah good call Kenworth, I like that idea.

I know i didn't actually take part in the Tour bit this year as decided to stay onsite and enjoy the activities that the Dartmoor site had to offer, and that was due in part that it took us 8 hours to drive down, so spending another few hours in the car the next day didn't very much appeal to me.

But if I had gone, pottering or normal would be the type of tour i would go for, as not all OSF's are built for lunatic speed. Don't get me wrong, I wish it was - but it ain't.

I thought we were all very restrained? It was 30mph over the moor and there were camera vans everywhere,  having said that if we are doing groups next year put me down for the knobhead group! Hehe

I'm so glad you put yourself up for that group !?

A longer run would get our vote. Railway could be good. Last year the BSC guys did a run out to the Forest of Dean railway over a car show weekend, and that seemed very popular.
