Every one counts, stop these shits from nicking cars and re-reg them also stop the people building something it's not !

The problem i see is, how would it be policed?

Its already illegal and unless caught red handed theyre going to get away with it.

Other than coming down hard on "memrobelia" ads

Any effort to highlight the things that go on has got to be a good thing in any way shape or form. Don't know the exact ins and outs of whether it's illegal to sell one, but we all know what peeps want them for!  Surely the likes of EBay who facilitate the sale of these should also be prosecuted, and if it comes under the sale of memorabilia......my arse....15/20k for a piece of paper to stick on the garage wall next to a registration plate...yeah right. Not sure if you can report this sort of thing to DVLA as really the reg belongs to them, so when it does come up that a vehicle with this reg on gets flagged up for further investigation.

I belive they are looking into cars that are magically re appearing. I spoke to a chap in Manchester who is having a ball ache putting his RS2000 back on the road after many years. They were going to put it on a Q plate as there wasn’t enough evidence to match the Car and the V5 doc. Sure he’s on the forum.

Fully fully understand this thread and totally support it in context.

let me just add some background to my caution. As a kit car builder the process of obtaining an age related registration on completion of the kit car build I have to prove that my newly completed (IVA passed) unregistered vehicle was constructed mainly from 1 donor vehicle, to do this I need the V5 and the VIN plate, most of the unused parts of the car would have been sold off and the remaining shell goes for scrap, sometimes years before the project is completed.

i voice my support for the sentiments of the post but ask for caution, legislation can be a blunt instrument.

Not trying to start an argument but you are building a new vehicle with a new chassis so unless it is built from Brand New traceable parts in which case it deserves a 17 / 18 plate then it gets a Q plate - why do you think you deserve an age related plate when guts are apparently being denied the re-issue of a V5 for a vehicle they've owned for a number of years - just because they've moved address?

The rules have been around for a good 10+ years in regard kit cars - you use the chassis or keep it so the DVLA can witness its a one for one swop out! - Yes its a shitty stick rule but there it is. This is a different issue - we just want to retain what was given to the cars at their birth!

This wasn't the case as I understand it - guy had owned car for years and been restoring it so obviously had no MOT or taxing records and DVLA refused to re-issue a V5 with revised address until he proved the car exists / was in his ownership etc. Whether it got sorted - haven't heard anything further!
