Munch
I can now call myself a proper member of the OSF club! I have only gone and bought myself a mk2 RS2000. I don't pick it up until next week though, but only a few more days to go. It's got a 5 speed box and uprated suspension, but otherwise it's totally original. There are a few minor imperfections that I would like to address but importantly no rust. It was for sale locally to me and I thought I would go and have a look just to see it. When I saw it I couldn't stop smiling at how it looked and made me feel. I went out for a drive and that was it, I had to have it! I am looking forward to taking it to a few shows this summer and having a tinker, so hopefully I will get to meet some of you guys. I took a quick photo before I left.

I used to go to the fast car RWYB 22 or so years ago in one of my first mk2's so looking forward to 're-living' the good old days only in a better car. I have just read your van thread Vista, amazing. What a good looking car. Have you sorted out all of the niggles now? The guy I bought this from had a one owner from new mk1 van and I asked if it was for sale because it looks well cool, he said it could be. . . I might go back to him one day after seeing what it is capable of becoming.

Munch
Well the waiting is over. The guy I bought the car from dropped it off on a low loader this morning. I came home from work to take delivery but had to go straight back. I then had the rest of the day thinking about it. I haven't driven a mk2 escort for about 22 years now, and boy was it a surprise to get back behind the wheel! The steering is soooo heavy and the brakes, well lets just say you have to prepare to brake long before needing to. The engine isn't keen to tick over but it does drive well and it's comfortable to sit in. It's a good looking car, and I hadn't even got it on my drive before one of the neighbours came over to have a look. According to the MOT's the car has only done just shy of 1000 miles in the last 12 years, so maybe a good run would sort out a few issues anyway. So first impressions are, love the looks and the noise but it will need a service and better brakes, but that's one of the reasons I wanted one, so I can do a bit of tinkering. Fozzy48
Well done on the purchace buddy. Before I bought mine last year, I hadn't driven one for about 22 years myself and the one thing I noticed was just how small they are. ATB. Munch
I took my car out properly for the first time yesterday. I had such a good time it was so much fun, and the noise just adds to the experience. People were pointing, taking pictures from inside their cars and it really grabbed the attention of children. They seemed to be mesmerised like you would be if an F40 drove by! The suspension is a bit soft and spongy so I have ordered some stiffer and lowered springs for the front and stiffer single leaf springs with lowering kit for the rear. Looking under the bonnet I have a leak in the rocker cover gasket and also in one of the carburettor breather hoses so I have added a gasket set and some hose to my order. I will replace all the carburettor gaskets for peace of mind.
DT36
Just fitted a rocker gasket earlier this evening. Little tip is to apply some superglue to the front dome bit by the cam pulley. When it sets its much easier to fit.

Fozzy I know what you mean. Whenever I talk to someone about driving my car I get really animated and it basically makes me happy just thinking about driving it. You can't get that with a modern car. I would love to use it as my daily driver, but with the british weather it would destroy it too quickly.

I'm the same mate, although I'm not too sure about using it everyday, even if it was sunny all the time. I think the anticipation of going out every now and then keeps the excitement, and I personally wouldn't want to lose that using it all the time.
