Rally Pack 2000
I dont think there were 4 door Sports, not even South African ones (not that I have ever seen at least). It was more Australia that dabbled in 4 Door performance Escorts and the Sport was never part of the Escort line there.

I know I was curious about this before but couldn't find any images so like Preacherman I suspected that any sightings were just 4 door cars with the stripes added. Rally Pack 2000
This page from "The Sporting Escorts" explains why there aren't many images of genuine 4 door Sports. (It doesn't show one either!) It says while 2 door production went for 5 years, 4 door production was only for 18 months because they weren't selling very well. Combining poor sales and really short production period means a rare car I would imagine. If you noted the number plate you could see if it fits within that 18 month window. Outside that it would probably be a fake. I still don't recall 4 door South African ones though. However the same book maintains South Africa made 855 Flat nosed RS2000s and I have never seen evidence of this not even a single image sometimes these things are like bigfoot and never captured on film. Although in that case I suspect an error by the Author instead.
Wilko131
Would be nice to see a genuine 4 door sport. But apart from few bits of trim isn’t that what the 1600 Ghia is. Same engine and box same chassis same brakes. Please correct me if I’m wrong but I always thought the Ghia was a sport with extra doors Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Tony F
This photo was taken in 1986, that me and my sister. This car said 4 door 1600 sport on the documents, all the interior was 1600 sport including the front seats that did not fold. However I still can not be 100% sure it was genuine, only 99.9%. I think back in the 1980's you could change your "Specification" on the old green V5 documents. The car was sold in Carlisle in 1989 and I am desperate to trace it, buy it or even find its Reg. I've often wondered if i did a Subject Access Request to the Police - if they would give me the reg. I got stopped many times, for loud exhaust, dangerous driving and pulling wheel spins. Any advice would be appreciated

kiwi_bugman
I used to live near Bournemouth in the South of UK. When I was in my teens our next door neighbour worked for Ford UK & was fairly high up in the food chain. As a Ford employee he got a 4-door Orange 1600 Sport specially built for him. I remember it in the driveway when it would have been a couple of years old. Back in the day, some employees could access the factory build computer, (such as it was), & change codes around to build 'specials'. I believe this how such non production versions may have came about? Paul
ShaunS
Wow, I guess you learn some every day, Definitely no 4door sports in South Africa though,
