Didn't get to drive it, but the ones I have driven have suffered with torque steer especially when the the power outputs are increased. They can be a bit unnerving if you don't know about it. The last one I drove a few years ago was bloody frightening with it.

We didn't get Mk3 or later Escorts here instead we got re-badged and slightly cosmetically changed Mazda 323s which they called the Ford Laser. One of the models they eventually came out with was the Laser Turbo which was a front wheel drive version, virtually equivalent in specifications to the RS Turbo. The car dealer friend who found me the Twincam borrowed a different car each day as his work vehicle and he brought one of these round for me to try. Heavy steering and uninspiring but I hit the accelerator and "bam" I found myself on the wrong side of the road from torque steer having to swerve back to avoid oncoming traffic. Truly the most dangerous car I have ever driven. Not long after they turned the car into a four wheel drive model as a direct result of its appalling drive characteristics. Ever since I always wondered if the Escort RS was better sorted.
colr6
The door rests were a handy feature to jam your arm inbetween them and the wheel to hold it!! The worst one I drove was a series 1 RST with a turbo technics conversion on it rated at 170bhp which back in the day was a lot! We fitted a pair of slicks on it and took it down the road. I can assure you once was enough!!! I was younger then and even more stupid, but once was enough...lol
