Anti-roll bar bushes

Recommended Posts

Hi, I want to change the front anti-roll bar bushes on my mk 2 rs2000. The bar measures 21.1mm with a digital calliper so what size bushes do I get? 22mm or 20mm?

I'd go 22mm as the bushes should tighten when the clamps are done up; you may struggle getting the 20mm bushes on in the first place.

Well I've gone poly throughout though I have since read that you should have some rubber bushes on a road car for a better ride, can't remember which ones though. Car isn't on the road yet so can't give feedback, though I suspect it's all down to how you want your particular Escort to feel.

I found 20mm bushes on a 20mm bar very tight, so yes 22mm

I know very little about poly bushes, but i thought the colour meant how hard they were, and black was track only (not for road use) due to being too hard, but that may be a myth or old hat

Thanks for the advice, I may be better to stick with standard rubber then as the car used to feel fairly stiff anyway.

The large washers that hold the end bush that goes through the TCA, are they both supposed to be removable because the inner one looks like it is part of the anti-roll bar, or it is rusted on??

Can't say for sure as it's a while since I did mine. I got my ARB bushes on by cutting across the bush from left to right on the top face/flat side down to the bar hole then opening it up and popping onto the ARB. (So if you look at the bush from the side as it would be fitted, the cut was from the centre up to 12 o'clock position the width of the bush if that makes sense?)

Cheers Matt, I thought that they were slide on, that's why I was asking about getting the inside washers off.

Yeah I thought the same when doing mine but as they are double width there's no way they'd go round the bends anyway. I think I used a new stanley blade to do it, though may have been a hacksaw. Lol

They are definitely rusted on and come off. 👍

You will problably find the sleeve from the bush has rusted itself to the roll bar stopping the inner washer from coming off.

Col, that makes sense, are those sleeves replaceable?

I bought standard QH track control arms and they come with the bushed fitted in the arms already but there is no sleeve with it.

The poly bush kits do come with them, if you didn't want to poly bush them I do have some sleeves.
