Your Club Needs You ! #OldSkoolFord

Hello boys and girls of Old Skool Ford,

Your Club Needs You!

We're looking to revamp the forum slightly and make a few changes here and there but we need you to tell us what you like about the forum and why you come on here so that we can do more of the things you like and remove some of the things that you maybe don't look at.    We're looking for constructive comments and would really like to hear from those of you who don't normally post but are interested to read the various posts and articles that are available to you and that have been compiled over a period of more than 10 years.   The more replies we can get, the better we can make the forum to take us forward into the future.   We are so pleased that we still have good support from you all and we know that since Facebook has come into existence the forum scene has changed considerably but to enable us to move forward in the right direction, we would love to hear what you like about our forum.

Please take the time to just tell us what you want/think, what you would like to see or read about and what you don't really look at on the forum.   It really would help us a lot.

CheeRS folks!

well, its only been 2 hours guys, and the first time ive seen it

but in defence, Jo does say take time, and also asks for people who don't use the forum to comment, which appears to me that you don't want a reply, it reads that you feel if we use it we are happy and don't need to reply, but ask those who don't use it other than to view to reply, TBH I cant see that working either, if they don't comment normally, nothing will change there

hence no replies, but as said, only 2 hours, busiest time will be later

I'm new to this forum and it may be unfair to comment but from what I can see is,there is slightly more activity going on here than other forums which I have used.

From my short time on here it seems pretty much the same as the other forums, the limited numbers who actually use the forums and add threads or comments are usually the same people all the time this just my experience it may be different this site.

Others who do add questions or threads don't tend to get much of a response at times, which is easily seen from the replies and views on each thread this In turn could give a negative impression to others,I'm sure there a lots of experienced members with lots of technical know how which have been there and done that and could easily help ,again this just my experience it may be different this site.

So why do some members help and others don't well from what I've seen on other forums it seems easier to accidentley upset another member by saying it's the wrong wheel colour and have a discussion about the so called right colour rather than comment what a great job on the wheel refurb they have done.

There is some really good members on most forums but just doesn't seem to be enough responding hence this is why I looked for a new forum so what I'm saying is members will jump ship or just sit on the fence a say nothing.

All forums Seem the same and struggle at times.

Sometimes a newbie will ask a question that seems fine with them but has been answered so many times its not funny so they won't get a reply - peeps get fed up typing the same response. We live in a 'now' society and expect an answer by return but pretty much every forum has a search function.........please try that first then ask the question.

As regards the site - I don't follow particular threads or sub groups - I just check what is new, if I can contribute I will. The clique'y set will always occur on any forum - you get to know what's what fairly quickly and I don't respond. One thing though - don't want plastic FWD cars here - even a mk1 Fester is pushing the boundaries IMO!

All comments are welcome but we especially want feedback from people who post less often about, specifically on things that might encourage them to participate more frequently.

I feel sometimes I could comment but I’m not that knowledgeable or what i think is right could be wrong. We had this with the rear shocks on Mexico’s recently.

I don’t think forums will ever be as popular as they were as long as Retards Club lives. There are so many Retards Club car clubs that exist and the youth will always go to Retards Club. In some cases they will ask the opening times of local shops as that’s the way the youth work now.

I did ask wether videos could be uploaded when we chatted about the drag racing scene as this would most definitely attract people if a whole round can only be watched on a forum.

Unless we make OSF a car club and forum like the AVO Club I’m not sure how or what we can do to attract and keep memebers.

I still think doing a piece in CF mag with admin members cars or something to promote us would be good.

The AVO forum is just the same and struggles with the same issues

Problem we have is if the forum dies OSF dies but AVO has a subscription Club base and if the forum died the club would probably live on.

As far as I’m aware TurboSport forum is the same, but they have lost so much I’m not sure if they have club stands at shows anymore.? Everyone I knew was on TurboSport. Now everyone is on Retards Club.

Im not sure how many members would continue to pay a subscription cost even at the AVO club when the forums aren't being used it's will be like talking to yourself and will become boring very quick especially with the lack of activity.

Retards Club was one of the problems being blamed for the drop in the forum activity but I don't use Retards Club so don't know if it's used as the replacement to the forums.

Its not so much that it's used specifically in place of forums, it's that people can use it as a one stop shop for everything. Family, friends, hobbies, car buddies, non car buddies etc etc.

What FB is rubbish at is retaining information and making it searcheable for people to find and use. This is a forum's strength.

Chris, you've restored a classic ford yourself so you probably know much more than you realise.

You get a lot of people on there. Posting photos, group activities, meets, parts wanted, parts for sale, Q&A’s, And it is always answered on there. Retards Club is a one stop shop for everyone’s social stuff. Hate it. I really do. I’d say 80% of cars shows I attend are Retards Club advertised, so I’m stuck can’t leave.

I will never use a FB for anything. I always assumed that this forum operates through both web and FB platforms simultaneously? By the sounds of it though the FB posts cant be seen here and the posts here cant be seen over there is that correct? The thing with FB is that like MySpace and others before hand is that there is a growing backlash about how they operate and their integrity of privacy and the like. Its clearly now a data collection agency for any government or scammer these days and more and more are beginning to resent that. I think Forums like this will survive long after the FB craze has run its course. Should this forum shut down and go strictly FB then I will probably loose contact with you all. I will never use FB and I wont buy from online stores that I cant purchase anything from unless I sign up to FB. I didnt realise that numbers were critically dwindling through here though? So new methods to attract members would be worth trying.

PS I would like to see the Mk2 Escort Icon return to the Forum menu. Only the Mk1 has appeared since the forum revamp.

I've not really been on here that long, but I like this forum, I like it a lot and it's got a lot going for it. I think how active it is speaks for it's self, and proves the guys that run it are doing a good job.

I'm on FB, but don't use it for this sort of thing, I might be old school myself. But like what's been said above, articles, project builds, including all the pic's just disappear. Where as on here, you can search and look back at them.

I've been on a few forums over the years, and still am. I'm on only one other that is thriving in the present climate. So can I suggest a couple of wee things that I've seen working else where.

1. Is your wee 'Like heart' at the bottom right of each quote could benefit from adding a 'Agree' and a 'Helpful' icon.

2. Is to have a two tear forum. The first part is the forum as it is, and the second part (Needs a name) a paying upgrade. I the paid section members would find in-detail car specs and any other information that the very knowledgeable guys wouldn't want to reveal on a open form. I do release this would take a lot of effort my meany to set up.

But on the hole. I think the forum works well the way it is.

We already have a paid membership scheme with a private room for members. It's £12 per year. The private room doesn't get a lot of use though. Check out the subscription tab on the index page or the store for joining the "Cult of OSF".

All of the new threads posted on here automatically appear on our open FB page and also our twitter feed. They have links back to here. New posts on either of those outlets don't appear on here though. Our closed FB group however doesn't (and can't) link back to the forum save for with links people post in it manually

Thanks for that... I've never noticed that before! Done now. ?

Morning all.

Im relatively new here. Ive been on another car forum for 10 years now from when i was into Classic VWs.

Ive seen the ups n downs on there. Some come and go. Some stay.

Its a lot quieter than it used to be but still ticking over nicely.

Personally I think Retards Club has had a negative affect on car forums (maybe forums generally?). But it is what it is.

I must admit, i could post more and will try to get a bit more involved.

Rich.

MK2 JO.

I must admit i prefer as a website the format that Volkzone use. May just be that i find it easier to navigate.

Unfortunately that's one thing that's difficult to change as it's dictated by the operating software platform. We can tweak the look and layout a bit but not really do much about the format.
