The Original 'Yumping Bean'

Yumping Bean

Bob Bean and Malcom Smithson rubbed shoulders with Rally Greats Roger Clark and Tony Mason in the 1970s. Their Mk1 Escort sported original paintwork of the Yumping Bean, Bobs nickname at the time. Now in his 70s, Bob has been rallying a Mk1 Lotus Cortina.

However, he's recently bought a Mk1 Escort for the BHRC Championship. So, how should he paint it? Like his original car of course!!

Keep your eyes open for Paul Elvins Mk2 Granada Estate which was stolen from the Isle of Sheppey area late on Saturday evening. It had broken down and was in a layby. When Paul returned, there was broken window glass in its place

On the subject of Mk1 Cortinas...

Toby Kent's Mk1 Cortina attracts a lot of attention. And looking like this I'm not surprised.

Toby Kents Cortina

Here's the spec:

Pre-crossflow built on an L block.

3D machined head for perfect chamber replication accross the cylinders.
RS200 BDT pistons (85.6mm) with the tops machined off to loose the bowls.
Stroker Dug Kiddie crank.
Arrow Rods.
Race steel cam.
Thin stem followers!
Tran X diff for strength with large shafts.

180 + Bhp (Sanspeeds rollers showed 201bhp but I think that reads a little high)
Toby says

Recently having boken so many pinto gear boxes I have made every cog in the box as straight cut gears from alloy tool steel. This meant I could choose my ratios. Whilst I was at it I made it a dog box.
