|
| hi, i've been looking into zetec engines for a mk1 fiesta and found there's loads of different versions. Could someone simplify it a little bit for me? All i would want is about 150bhp standard, or maybe with a little bit of modifying and the ability to go up to 200 if i wanted? I've seen loads of different sizes, and some with 180 out of a 1.8 and only others with 150 out of 2.0 so i have no idea which one is which and i take there all different models. any help on which is the best one to fit into a mk1 fiesta? Does it take a lot of modifying to fit on in? Thanks, Thomas........ |

i have copied this from the how to guide. i will be using this for my conversion good luck
as theres been questions on fitting zetec into mk1 fiestas i thought id write a guide on how i did mine , ill start with a shopping list of what i used etc , this was the easyer way and cheaper too
first of are the normal xr2 bits such as,
mk1 xr2/1300 passenger side drive shaft ,
mk1 xr2/1300 gear box craddle and bearer ,
mk2 xr2/cvh engine mount ,
mk2 xr2/cvh drivers side drive shaft
mk2 xr2/cvh alternater bracket/tensioner
fiesta center style weld on engine mount so the mk2 mount bolts to the body ,
as for wiring , radiator and pipes etc i used the stuff from a mk3 xr2i/rs1800
exhaust was from the 2i too down pipe and manifold as the escort downpipe makes the lamba senser hit the front xmember ,
i had a copie of the 5 speed kit made up same as the fc one ,
also had a reversed version of the tiebar made up for the drivers side as this is needed to clear the corner of the sump and the zetec alternater , there are other ways round this but i choose this route ,
to get the bay ready for the zetec to bolt into it needs the 5 speed conversion doin unless your staying 4 speed , the drivers side mount on the inner wing need cutting off along with the battery tray and the cvh style mount welding on , this is so the mk2 xr2 engine mount bolts on and so it clears the cambelt , and you also need to dent or cut a small section of the inner wing to clear the water pump pulley but not that much ,
the sump needs the end peice by the flywheel cutting off so you can still bolt the box to the craddle ,
engine should now bolt in the car ,
the 2i rad will need a little fiddling to fit but isnt hard and the 2i rad pipes are the easyest to fit as they need just a small trimming for a near perfect fit , wiring is done same as stus guide ,
as you should already know it will need a fuel pump and swirl pot etc for the fuel side ,
if your goin 1800 then get the escort/fiesta engine otherwise you will have to get all the same parts as you would to fit a 2.0 to a mk1 or mk2 such as water pump , sump and pick up etc , ally inlet etc ,
once engine is in and wired/plumbed in you'll need to marry up the down pipe to the exhaust of your choice unless you fit a 4branch ,
as for the alternator belt i cut a old belt to size then went to halfords and found a belt that size to fit ,
when i first drove the fez with the 2.0 i was very impressed its a worth while conversion and not a very hard one to do ,
ive done this guide in a hurry so if i missed much then ask me and ill help all i can!,. |
