    • Back to topic. Thanks Ray for the perspective. I guess my next move is to look at the unit and watch all of Project Ruby on Youtube. While I  was looking for info on the heater on Ruby I saw episode 28 and 29 so will be  renovating the actual heater box this week, might be a small HT there as i couldn't find one here. I did notice that some thread titles were a little obscure in the How To section The job is not urgent as per originating post but I will do a HOW TO if I succeed in the spring, or earlier if I get bored.
    • Perhaps I jumped the gun with Katana, but I responded to his posts as I thought they deserved, neither was at all helpful nor intended to be in my view. Please read them, compare them with Rally Pack 2000s and understand my response. If anybody can explain how his post at 11.13. on Sunday was intended to be informative or helpful I will review my opinion of him as he seems to have several supporters who consider him a good guy and helpful. It would not be the first time I have been wrong about someone. On the basis of his posts in this thread he appeared to me to be a contrarian. I will photograph, however badly, and document my efforts as I blunder about trying to do an uncomfortable and difficult job and will be pleased to share them as and when. I will make every effort to be civil and polite at all times , but cannot guarantee to be nice, although I promise not be offensive,  rude or harsh without what I consider to be  good reason. It is good to know that there are those on the forum who will support and defend those they like and respect and I apologise to them if they feel I have grievously misjudged Katana as appears to be the case here.
    • Re Trumpets - its down to engine tune! Torquey lower rpm suits long pipes / high rpm screamer suits short pipes. In most cases ie. road use, it makes 2/10ths of FA difference and so is personal preference on looks alone. Throttle linkage - many, many variations and i've used Mangolitsi ? which worked with DCOE's so I suppose that's a vague recommendation?
    • bear in mind I don't know the mk4 cortina that well, but as time went on, it was not uncommon for the heater box on all cars, to be one of the first things fitted to the car, therefore i would not be surprised if you didn't have to totally dismantle the dash to remove the heater box, from memory the 3,4 and 5 cortinas, the heater matrix was removable from the engine bay, which again points to the heater box not being designed to be removed in its design life, with Haynes manuals, anything considered beyond the scope of the average person was not covered and sometimes said so after this amount of time, yes I would expect the heater box needs attention, and getting it out is going to be a horrible job, and down to you to find out for yourself, taking plenty of notes and photos unfortunately, as I doubt your going to find any written procedure, and I doubt that many cortina owners have tackled it, and those that have will have just done it on a trial and error basis without logging a procedure

Hello! sounds like a plan, it's a fair distance from me but I want to get it done, I have a good 3.09 CWP set and would want any suspect bearings and LSD plates changing, early September would be good for me after all the tourists have gone home! but that would depend on your workload, whereabouts in Guilford are you based?
