not a bad figure figure for an 8v pinto, although much easier and cheaper to gain power with a turbo attached. to get anything over 200 from a n/a pinto your into at least 5 grand to do it properly.

Yep, exactly why I went that route.  It's also a bit different, and I like that.  Can't wait to see what it is like in my 100e.

  3. I think there have always been those that preferred originality over modified, but as the cars get older and more "collectable" there will be more people that are vocal about their dislike for modifying.  That is unless the modifications fit a particular "approved" 🙄 route.  My father inlaw has a pre-war austin 7 rp.  People are furious if you modify one, even using an otherwise scrap car for a build that isnt back to original, unless you build a "special" then they love it...

cant build like for like for the road legally

Depends how the DVLA view the parts and if you can convince them they are “heritage” replacement parts, then you can as it would class as a replacement chassis. Lots of it’s though and wouldn’t like to be first to try. Personally would just go IVA route for a road car.

Would these only be good for rally use?

Would be nice to have a mint rust free bodyshell.

    Interesting question...

You could build a "new" car with it and go through IVA process, which would be simple enough.

OR... you could potentially rebuild an existing MK1 escort using one as a "like for like" replacement chassis, which then doesnt require any tests.
