  1. thats not the case if they contact the owner saying someone has requested information. i wouldn't expect them to reply with a address, all i want is the letter to be forwarded....
  2. Has anyone on here had any luck getting the current owners details from the DVLA for a car they use to own? Its my dads 60th next year and i though i would try and track down and buy a car he brought new in 1977 (a MG not a FORD) the interweb says was MOTed a few weeks ago and is still taxed. He sold it late 80's after i was born as wasnt piratical but always speaks about buying it back if he saw it at a show. I read you can fill out a V888 form and request details but thats more for hit and runs etc. I was going to attach a letter and ask them if they would forward it to the current owner, that way no Personal details have been obtained. If the current keeper isnt interested then they can ignore the letter, or they may want to contact me regarding history of the car or what ever. I also understand you are able to get details of previous owners of the car you own so i dont see why you cant do this with permission from current owner. If council or parking reinforcement company can request your details i dont see why this is a legitimating reason.....
  3. As said Ford Fair can be a good day out if you like a Mix of New and Old Fords. I havnt been since 2008 when I had a mk1 Focus RS and was on their stand. The convoy there was cool with 47 cars. If you like right mix of modified cars then you can do friday/sat at the POD at Ultimate Street Car then Sunday at Ford Fair. Did that back in 2004/5 when I was 18 in My Escort, didnt beat much up the strip with a 1300GT lump but the odd plasic Corsa saw the back end of my Escort haha
  4. being Deaf and smelling of petrol is just part of the experience of driving my escort
  5. I placed a 3 or 5mm thick steel square between the nut and the car at all 3 points to give more strength
  6. When i fitted some to mine i used the holes already there for the reals at the top then drilled 2 new holes for the other 2 points. kind of wish i didnt as can only think of a few occasions there was people in the back but was my daily 9 years ago when i was 17.

    Hot Hatches

I have always fancied a Lotus Subeam but bits are hard to find and the word LOTUS on the engine suggest Big Bills

    Hot Hatches

When i was 18 (9 years ago now) i got a Mk2 Golf GTi 8V to use as a daily instead of the Mk1 Escort and it was ok, i then picked up a 205 1.9 GTi and ever since been a huge 205 fan loved the way it felt to drive and handled. Year later got a Mk1 Focus RS, as was only 3 and a half years old didnt have the boy racer image quite the same as it does now. As a 19 year old with mates still in 1.3 Clio's etc a 2L turbo with around 212BHP felt rapid, and being newish and low mileage felt really sturdy and tight. Still had the 205 at the time which down the lanes left more of a smile on my face, even though the rate the Focus ate up the miles at some alarming speeds was special as well. Fell into the modding trap and mine was only 276BHP 311Ft/lbs pretty tame compared to many on the RSOC. I Sold the 205 to pay for my 1700 in the Escort but then picked up a Racing Puma needing some work and that still to this day was my favourite FWD i have owned, it didnt have the power of the Focus but felt more like the 205 but far better sorted to drive. On the weekends would always be the Racing Puma keys i would grab than the Focus. I then picked up a cheap Mi16 205, it was a little ruff and suspension wasnt as good as my old one but the thing was sooooo fast, remember it leaving a 2000 civic Type R with out much issue down the dual carriage way. Had a ZVH XR3i one winter when Focus was tucked up in the garage but wasnt all that. Couple of years ago had a VRS Skodia Fabia, and even though was a little front end heavy and not the handling the motor was good chipped to 160-170BHP pulled really well but still managed 55MPG Driven a selection of other hot hatches and am a huge fan of them, 106 GTI is another good back road blaster 306 GTI-6 original 172 Clio. Im not a French Car fan but they have done a good few hot hatches. The new range on Hot Hatches to come out i think are great fun daily drivers had a spin in the new Fiesta ST and was pretty impressed. I do look back and feel lucky to have owned some of the best chassied FWD/hot Hatches
  9. i guess the cost of 'good' condition webbers or del's off ebay then a rebuild isnt far off a nice new set off the shelf
  10. i have del's on mine for the same reason... where for sale at a good price when i was looking. People say there is more spares for webbers but only because they are easier to get hold of, never had a issue having mine jetted and chocked. Cant you still buy webbers new? i guess thats about the only advantage
  11. I thought about doing the same next year once tax exempt, i dont see why would make it a Q plate. Even brad new cars could have a engine change under warranty, new GT3 911 is a example..... Technically a restored classic would be a Q plate.... a mk1 with a Cossy engine, most the drive train and suspension would be changed and probs some body work, could have hardly any original components
  12. I have been thinking about a tracker for my mk1, Savvi the one you speak of whats the cost? is it yearly fee one? and allow live tracing from PC/Mobile? does it havr a built in rechargeable battery as i leave my battery disconnected
  13. i think all cars have gone up a size, fiesta is escort size, escort/focus is sierra/mondeo sized. All new clio/fiesta/207 etc are all bigger than their older brothers that i would sit in the back off as a kid in the 90's, rear seats were more for 2 kids than 2 adults
  14. My Dellorto 40's have a man choke but i think it beacuse they cam off a car that would of had them from factory, from what i can see its a valve that allows air out to allow it to run richer. sounds terrible like huge air leak....welll i guess it is a huge air leak
  15. once the engine is up to temp the stat isnt doing much anyway so i dont see over all its going to make a difference, other than a slight flow restriction. to compensate for the loss of a heater i would go for a bigger rad to have a much water in the system as possible and a good electric fan. With all cooling systems if your engine is struggling to stay cool when moving or in traffic something in the system isnt up to the job. i went for a pretty big alloy rad thats probably a bit over kill for the road but with a good temp choice stat the two work well to keep engine at a nice 80'c and a strong elec fan to control things when in traffic.
  16. AS Above ^^^ when i thought about doing a cossy mk2 4door my pan was to find a 2wd saph running and bu that run it aroun make sure engine and box were good etc then also play with spec of it while in the saph then pull it out clean i up and fit to the escort then sell off the cossy bits i didnt need. this was a good few years ago (maybe 5 years) when 3-5k could get you a car, and i even looked at dodgy clean car for 2k. hard to pay £1500 for a engine that 'was a good runner when in car'. in the end it never happened. Same with my caterham i needed a new 160VVC 1.8 kseries, with a engine with a bad history like the kseries, there was no way i was paying £5-600 for a Engine loom and ECU when i can buy a MG ZR for £800-1000 running with T&T that i can make sure is ok
  17. I found with mine 3 pumps of the throttle then it normally starts on the button if not been left for months. Im not sure if many car that had 40's as a factory fit would of had a auto or a man coke
  18. It was cars like the Harris car i was thinking about. my thoughts where for the little extra cost I'm probs better fitting the shafts as well even though I'm probably far from the limit of what the standard ones can handle. Then thats the axle done. Gear box is the one that I'm not sure about, i guess a 2000e or rs2000 box is the ideal upgrade for my 4 speed and i guess are as strong as a type 9 but are harder to find. then with a box change a new single piece prop would probably be a nice addition. Why did you keep the 4speed? surly ratios would be similar in a type9 but with advantage of a extra gear? you using a RS2000 box?
  19. You after a fast tick over when you fast start up? mine sits nice at around 1000RPM when cold even with 244 cam. my carbs do have a choke on the top but never thought to connect it up
  20. surly a few of you guys are able to offer some input
  21. there isnt a van on the market i wouldnt fit extra security to. Ford and the Vauxhall vans are easy to get into As said a skeleton like key is available for the old round ford keys. A good auto lock smith could probably cut a Ford key by eye from what im told, then again if key and lock are quite worn a few other keys would probably work in the door with some jiggling. At work we had a mobile locksmiiths and with a £1000 kit could get into most cars in under 3mins with out a mark. even with out a lock pick you would be surprised how easy they can be to get into. At work we had two 2010 transit's stolen and when one was recovered wasnt a mark on it or signs of lock or wires being tampered with and was guessed the PATS was overridden. Looked like they had the keys as questions were asked of staff being involved!
  22. I have the web page saved as a icon on my Samsung so it takes me direct to the main form page, it has my password saved so i see my notifications as soon as page loads. there is a app for forums as it asks me if i want to download it taptalk or something but been working well the way i been doing it https://tapatalk.com/
  23. ah yea that looks like the sort of thing im use to from working on Nissan rear drums. id get a pic of mine if i could, quite liked the way it can be tweaked with drum on and ideal when they are lipped
  24. yeah thats pretty good deal as i guess classics would get CAT D every easy
  25. must be different to mine, i put the drums on wind it on till it locks then back a few turns gives a nice handbrake feel and pedal. least its off
