i had the same problem on a std mrk 1 escort, after i changed all the suspension rubbers mountings and steering coupling !!!!!!!!! problem solved, i then fitted 195 50 15" TSW hockenhiem wheels with 20mm spacers, WHAT A DIFFERENCE
