  1. The Classic Ford October 2021 issue, available now, is dedicated to Ford’s classic Q-cars — brilliant blue ovals with a secret sting in their tail! Like most things in car culture, the term ‘sleeper’ originated in the United States, but it’s been part of the UK Ford scene for almost as long, too. In fact, Ford were at it themselves when they introduced the Mk1 Zephyr Six — a car that arguably kickstarted the whole modified Ford movement we now know and love. This issue we celebrate the classic Ford sleeper — a style that has never gone out of fashion and will be with us forever. And classic sleepers are ever-evolving too, with later cars now taking inspiration from their elders like the Superspeed Capri above. Last month, we welcomed the return of Ford Fair — the first show we’ve been able to co-host for exactly two years. It was great to be back, and we’re not going to lie, slightly emotional, too. Catch up on all the classic action in this issue. 2. Never mind power upgrades — get the suspension and brakes sorted on your classic Ford and head out for some B-road bliss. We show you how in the Classic Ford September 2021 issue, out now. When it comes to modifying classic Fords, performance almost always comes before anything else. In the Classic Ford September 2021 issue we’re hoping to redress with features and advice on the two of the most important aspects of upgrades — the suspension and brakes. Get these right and everything else should fall into place, so read our guide, get down the garage, then get set for the B-road. Also inside this issue Pinto carbs on test: how much extra power can you get from fitting sidedraughts? 3. There’s nothing more satisfying than rebuilding your classic Ford yourself, and the Classic Ford August 2021 issue, out now, is packed with tips, ideas and inspiration to help you become a bona fide Homebuilt Hero — plus exclusive in-depth feature on the world’s first electric Cortina! Taking the electric motor part out of the discussion for a moment, what Tim Harrison’s done with his Mk1 Cortina isn’t so different from the rest of us. He wanted a more powerful and reliable method of propulsion, so he removed the original engine and bolted in a more modern one — sound familiar? The fact that he was able to retain the rest of the running gear makes this swap all the more impressive — it’s truly bolt-in power! Of course, there’s a bit more to this car than that. It’s quite possibly broken the floodgates for a future flurry of electric-powered classic Fords once the costs inevitably start to come down, but is it the future? We’re not sure — like many others we’re hoping that synthetic fuels will help protect our old Fords from any forthcoming legislation so we can continue to enjoy the sights and sounds of a pair of 45s hanging off the sides of our engines. But we do look forward to a time when electric and combustion-engined classic Fords share space at the Classic Ford Show. Inside this issue: Electric Cortina: battery-powered Mk1 that was a true bolt-in swap Fit a five-speed: in-depth guide to installing a Type-9 five-speed gearbox to your classic Ford Zephyr Mk4: your in-depth buying guide to the 1960s big classic How to get the mag: Find your nearest UK stockist of the Classic Ford August 2021 issue via our Storefinder Can’t get down the shops? 4. Mange tout, Rodney, mange tout… Inside your Classic Ford July 2021 issue — available now — you’ll find exclusive features on both the Only Fools And Horses, and Minder Capris plus Cortina Mk5 buying guide and much more. When the series creators were developing the characters for Minder and Only Fools And Horses, I don’t think there would have had much discussion about which car Terry and Del Boy should drive. The Capri is so inextricably linked to both characters (though they are both very different), that it’s almost as if the choice of car came first! And even though the Capris played only a small part in the two now-classic TV series (especially compared with the Capris used in The Professionals), they’ve become an essential part of each’s history, so it’s great to see that both have not only survived — despite one ending up in a scrapyard, later almost destroyed by fire, the other abandoned in a film studio lot — but are now in safe hands thanks to their TV memorabilia-obsessed owners. We bring you the story of both cars, plus your essential guide to the top five Capris on screen (yep, there are even more). 5. Your special 132-page Classic Ford June 2021 issue is out now, celebrating 45 years of the original Fiesta with model guides, feature cars and the untold story of the RS version! It was a huge financial risk for Ford, and an initially reluctant one at that, but we think it’s fair to say that the Fiesta was a risk well worth taking for the big Blue Oval. The longest-running model in the European line up celebrates its 45th birthday in 2021, and this anniversary year should finally see the original Mk1 gain the momentum and status it richly deserves, both as part of our scene and the incredibly-important part it played in Ford-of-Europe’s direction and success in the decades that followed — even if it did help to see the demise of mass-production, rear-wheel-drive models! To help cement that status, much of this issue is dedicated to the Mk1, and we’re looking forward to celebrating in the flesh (and metal) with a special display at Ford Fair on August 8. Also inside this issue E10 fuel guide: everything you need to know to use it safely in your classic Ford Escort RS2000: superbly-restored Mk1 that’s fit for the shows and B-road Fiesta Supersport: in-depth buying guide on the 1980s classic And much more! 6. With Spring here, now’s the perfect time to buy a classic Ford, and in the Classic Ford May 2021 issue, out now, we reveal six ideal examples you can get for £6000 or under! As we inch slowly and hopefully towards the show season opening up here in the UK, the draw of seeing classic Fords in the metal again is an increasingly strong one. If you can’t wait, don’t have your own classic Ford to gawp at, but happen to have a cool £6K burning a hole in your pocket, then check out our guide on what you can get for your money — whether it’s from the 1960s or 1990s, there’s something for all tastes. If you only get to go to one show this summer, then make sure it’s Ford Fair, which, with fingers firmly crossed, will be taking place at Silverstone on August 8. As well as a whole host of special displays and reveals, we’re aiming to get examples of all the six £6000 cars featured together for a showdown in the Live Arena to see if you agree with our choices. Inside this issue Six for £6K: from classic 1970s saloons to 1990s hot-hatches — six classic Fords to buy now Rare Escort Mexico: special-order Mk1 that got all the options, and now superbly-restored Swaymar Capri: sole-surviving 1980s bruiser How to get the mag Find your nearest UK stockist of the May 2021 issue via our Storefinder Can’t get down the shops? 7. Find out how Ford’s iconic RS Cosworth range redefined the performance car in the Classic Ford April 2021 issue, available now! With Ford’s encouragement, Cosworth has built some era-defining engines over the years (check out our pick of the top five starting on page 32), but in recent times it’s definitely the YB turbo that has had the biggest effect on the classic Ford world. A relatively simple design by today’s engineering standards, this 2-litre engine is capable of producing almost obscene amounts of horsepower, yet it was designed over 25 years ago. Unsurprisingly then, the YB’s popularity has never waned, and neither has that of the carts it was officially fitted to, and we pay tribute to the mighty RS Cosworths starting on page 23. However, there’s no denying the biggest crowds are always drawn to the open bonnets of classic Fords running them, like Jamie Gilmour’s Mk1 Escort (above and page 36). We all appreciate period-modified cars, but sometimes you can’t beat going stupidly fast in a 50-year-old Ford brandishing a Cosworth cam cover. 9. We are 300! Join us in celebrating this milestone in the Classic Ford Spring 2021 issue — out now — featuring the best stories, photos and more, plus the top 30 feature cars of all time! When Classic Ford launched in 1997, we can well remember the buzz in the office when the first copies came back from the printers. We all knew it was going to be a success. Both the magazine and the scene have changed immeasurably since those days, but looking back through all the old copies to put together the 300th Issue special feature for this issue, it’s good to see the one thing that drives both the mag and the scene hasn’t changed — our enthusiasm for these old cars that take up too much of our time and money. Everyone who works on Classic Ford is proud to be part of one of the biggest and best classic car collectives on the planet — it just goes to show the saying, ‘You can’t beat an old Ford’ still rings true. In the UK at least, winter has felt like a particularly long one this time around. In the Classic Ford March 2021 issue, we’ve cherry-picked examples that we think you should check out this coming Summer — from right across the scene. We’ve even dared to highlight one car that isn’t even finished yet, but knowing the owner, we don’t think there’s much doubt that it won’t be rolling through a show gate this coming Summer. 18. The Classic Ford Spring 2020 issue is available now, and it’s a bumper 148-page edition dedicated to Ford’s 1980s Heroes! Pop music, fashion trends, politicians… looking back, they all help define a decade, and so does the automobile. So while in popular culture the 1980s might be remembered for Madonna, shoulder pads and, erm, Thatcher, this issue we’re here to sing the praises of cars that proudly wear the badge that is blue and oval. The 1980s was the decade that saw European Fords change forever, with big changes to the method of propulsion and driveline — not to mention the styling. This issue celebrates those cars, which are not just bona fide classics, but downright heroes, too — whether it’s on the high street or the rally stage.
