6x13s would be your safest, but people have fitted 7inch wide wheels, but I'm not sure if that requiers arch work. You can't go wrong with minilights or 4 spokes

i know mine is a mk2 but 7x13 minilighs with 185/60 r13 did catch slightly on bumps but i bent the lip under the front arch's up and now they are fine

my capri 4spokes on 185/60's rubed untill i knocked the inner arch lip in.

now on minilights with 175/55's and there is plenty of room between the tyres and arches, like the idea of 7" but to many stories of them rubbing on the rear of a mk1, but probs down to the off set.

much prefer the look of minilites :ykt:

There is a big difference to the wheel size as you can see, so much so i was unable to get off my dirve!

i run 7X13's on 175 60R dunlops. sits fine but i havent lowered the car at all. i assume if you lower your ride tyre set up will have to change. but i have heard of people running 7X13 on 175 55's without a problem.

hope this helps.

What other tyre options are there with 175/55/13? I use Avon CR500's which are a Caterham Tyre but are £110 a corner! and £120 for 8" 205/55/13. and there very soft, but once warm up offer so much more grip over my road 185/60's

I run 7x15 Revoloution 5 spokes on the rear of my mk1, lowered as well by 2+ inches. It's all about the offset really, get the prefect offset and 7" wheels will go in there with no mods at all, my rear arches are not rolled and there is no rubbing or bottoming out.

What offset are your 5 spokes Dan? I'm thinking of going 7x15 at the back of my Mk1. Also what size tyres do you have?

Cheers

Hi!

I new here, mas completing the answer...

I want to put the capri rs type 6" x 13" on my 1974 escort GT-HC

How much can I lower the car (can I low it 2" ?) and with that mesure wich tyres can I use?

Sorry, but the car car went last week to the bodyshop, and I want to test it before the painting...

SI need to buy the lowering block and the spring with the same lowering mesure right?

thanks from Portugal!

Will check the offset next time there off the car. They currently have 195/45/15's on there but could get away with 195/50/15 as well i reckon.

much as minilites, revolution 4 spokes, lotus steels and (my favourites) rs 4 spokes look good it'd be great if more people tried different wheels on their mk1s

Resurrecting an old thread but given my question is the same I figured best to build on this one.

Looking for wheels for my Twincam but it seems there arent many options over an above the 4 main popular choices.

RS Steel Type

Mk1 RS 4 Spoke

These all look splendid on other Mk1s but im I have reservations on an Orange Twincam. The RS steels were meant for later Mexicos and RS2000 but on an earlier Twincam?

The RS alloys have the same point to be made about them but also I have Capri Laser wheels on my Mk2 so just feel it would be a bit samey.

The Hubcaps offer that discrete Q car look and on simple colours it works really well. On UK Twincams for example that are all white it definitely matches but on a bold bright Orange its shouts "look at me" so that Q car looks is a bit lost.

Minilites are just so overdone on Escorts it does push me to look for something different. That said the images of TexR2000s Mk1 above is the best looking Mk1 with square headlights I have seen anywhere and it has Minilites. My Twincam also has square headlights. I traditionally dont like Vinyl roofs either but with his Mk1 is just works really well. Its a brilliant looking package. It has a unique character all its own that I wish I could achieve.

Just cant seem to decide what would work for me though. Any other 13in wheels people would like to add? Or would you guys just go traditional?

What about some black revolution 4-spokes with polished rims? I think they add a refined classic racing look that goes well with a car made in the late 60's. I think they would be quite nice on a orange twincam...

Hi Gyver, are these the wheels you mean? I have heard the brand mentioned before but its not one I have seen alot here. Its an interesting different take on the 4 spoke design.

I couldnt find an image black centred ones on a Mk1 but it still shows the style.
