Over the years, many members have requested changes to the forum to recognise certain other 80's classic Fords. Whilst we have acknowledged that they are undoubtedly classic Fords, we have resisted their addition to our pages so that we don't become just another version of the many Ford related forums that are out there.

However, the number of requests we receive and number of members joining with these cars continues to rise so we felt we should reconsider the forums options and put it to a vote. We will act on the majority result of this vote as it is after all a members forum.

We do however wish to preserve the integrity of Old Skool Ford as a classic car forum and therefore propose moving the dates forward to include 80's cars only. Mondeos, Kas, Scorpios and the like will definitely not be gracing our pages.

We would greatly appreciate you taking the time to vote in the poll

In my opinion i like the way things are now and think thats what gives the club identity.

Nothing against the 80's fords i quite like some of them but there are many clubs catering for a wider range of cars but the set up of the club now is what makes us stick out at any show or event.

Like i say just my opinion but i think stick as it is and try and get more people to arrange shows, meets and other events in their area.

My opinion is keep it as it is .You may find just as many people leaving the site as joining .I for one have noticed "newer" fords appearing in Classic Ford recently .Sierras,mk3 Escorts,Orions,mk2 Granadas and Fiestas are not what i want to see in the mag or on here .Just my opinion of course

End of the day mk3 escort is 33 years old same as any late mk2 escort, and yes I've herd it all before regards the bumpers plastic etc ,but only the end caps are plastic same as mk1 fiesta from 81 onwards and Capri mk3 has same type bumpers,I personally like any old fords but I think you have to draw a line somewhere but as to what age?

I think there should be a cut off year say 1983 for instance or last runs of certain models,it all depends what you class as a CLASSIC people will allways have a different view

I'm genuinely torn on the issue, i love Series 1 RS Turbos, the RS 1600i and if course 3 door cossies but I'm not sure if I'd like them on here.

I suppose it might bring some new people to the forum, and they might just be tempted to switch to an earlier ford after seeing some of the awesome cars our members have.

I've noticed a few posts recently for later cars, mk3 escorts and mk2 fiestas mainly, so how about a compromise and have just one new room for all ford cars 80-87 and see how that goes? Mind you thinking about that sapphire cossie owners might feel left out and start posting only to be told 'sorry we don't cater for your car on here'.

On second thought I've decided. Sod em, keep it as it is!

We did consider opening a room for "new skool Fords" and being model specific - only allowing Mk 2 Festas, Mk3 Escorts, Mk1 Sierras, Mk3 Granadas, Mk1 Orions. But what would happen at shows and meets when those members wanted to be a part of the club stand :?

This is why i moved away from the club several years ago - the horrible discriminatory feel. Its as bad as segregation but for cars and their owners. If you guys are, happy with it that's what really matters, it just tastes rather rum to me.

Opinions are subjective. Personally I don't agree that site policy was or is discriminatory, it's just what the site was set up to cater for. Would you call a Capri club discriminatory for not allowing other models on their stands?

Anyway, if popular opinion is that we should make changes then we will act.

Mike that is some fence sitting you just did there!

As time passes and the forum slowly drops in membership and isnt 'the place to be anymore' i hope no one moans about it... This forum needs more membership or it struggles to pay its own bills. Why does it need to be so elitist? Lets see some more 80's stuff its hard as fook. Honestly is it so important that we dont allow people here because they have a car with a plastic bumper? The general attitude towards other car fans like myself but with 'the wrong car' put me off coming here massivly and it is the very reason why i dont

But the Capri Club is for Capri's, it's in the title..

And I don't even own a Ford anymore.

To me this is a question of what we class as old skool isn't it?

Is it more to do with the age of the car, say 30 years? Personally I don't think that is enough to make it old skool.

And if we went on age alone then get ready for what will be joining in another 10 years time.

For me there was definitely an end of an era that came along in the early 80s, and yes it involved plastic. Plastic bumpers, and greater use of plastic trim etc.

I feel that the mk1 Fiesta although being front wheel drive, clung on to the older way of designing and building a ford, and stuck with features that I call old skool, such as steel bumpers, square/round headlights, classic alloys, and the Kent Crossflow.

I would say that there are cars that have hints of these features, a mk 3 escort has steel bumpers etc, but by then these cars must have seemed old fasioned and by the time the next models came out there was a definite change, which lets face it (apart from general styling) hasn't changed much up to now.

imho the addition of mk3 escort is worth consideration as some of the iconic cars of the early 80's were xr3 and the 1600i and as had been said before they are now close if not 30 years old

they were still steel bumpers with plastic end caps same as mk1 fiesta's and capri's inside they were using the same trimstyles as the above cars

however the mk2 fiesta was a change up in that plastic full bumpers were coming into use on higher spec models (ghia and xr2)

so i would vote for mk3 escort but not mk2 fiestas if that makes sense

for the record my collection of old fords includes

mk2 escort

mk2 fiesta

mk4 escort

as you can see of the 3 fords I own only one of them fits in the forums list as it is now , one of them could and one of them will never will be lol

OK yes granted, but similarly we are not named or advertised as a brand wide Classic Ford Forum but instead, Old Skool Ford. Opinions on what should constitute an OSF obviously differ, hence this poll.

Er right - my input for what its worth..

This forum is NOT classicfordforum.co.uk, nor is it metalbumperforum.co.uk - oldskoolford is/was Darren's idea of what an oldskoolford is - Back in the day, he obviously loved Escorts, Capri's Anglia's, 100e's, Mk1 Fezza's & secretly lusted after a Granny tow car or whatever. His view - His site - His vision

Here we are, how ever many years later and people are asking for change? Why? Probably because like myself, at this moment in time, an OSF on the drive is out of my reach financially because it would need to be my daily, and therefore be a good clean reliable example i.e - Expensive!

I 'Could', probably have a mk3 Escort or Mk2 Fezza in great condition for under a £1000, but they are not oldskool and if I bought one, I would have no problem joining a forum that catered for them.

To me the answer is simple... harsh but simple - FIFO

I agree With Wayne, "OLD SKOOL FORD" !!! does that mean that in 5 years my X reg Mondeo will qualify for it to be considered as an OSF ! & then be allowed to be included on this site

This forum & site is very good already & it will spoil it if we allow all those cars that in my view put Ford on a downward spiral ! From an early age I was brought up with OSF & loved them & wouldn`t have anything else, since the plastic era I look for better cars & sadly its not often I have chosen a Ford :(

I rest my case !!! :)
