seaneylad
Good Afternoon Due to ongoing wheel wobble for over a year ... Ive been told to check steering column and replace bushes as its been known to fix the issue. As i have tried everything esle .. so this is like last chance saloon, give up if this doesnt resolve it haha.My question is where do i buy them from, i have found ones for the mk2, will they fit my mk1 okay? If there anything else i should be looking for on the column as possible area to cause the issue? Bottom steering column bush: Ford Escort Mk2http://www.burtonpower.com/bottom-steering-column-bush-ford-escort-mk2-mp1011.html Top steering column bush: Ford Escort Mk2http://www.burtonpower.com/top-steering-column-bush-ford-escort-mk2-mp1010.html Any advice as always is appreciated. seaneylad
The other thing i noticed, the other day when i jacked the car up and spun the front wheels they seems to move up and down slightly on both side, not perfectly rotating if that makes sense. Its had new discs, tried new hubs from gs escorts, new bearings, has the legs turned into coilvers with 200lb springs. Its only every slightly but if you look at the wheel in once area and spin in it goes above and below that line. Could that be an issue? Possible stub axle or? does it on both sides?Im lost now checked everything atleast 5 times now and all is okay

No movement, car drove perfect., I had done all the changes and had so much helpful but not problem solving advise... Same here i have had loads of people on OSF here and on FB give me advice, all valid and good but hasnt solved my issue. 1. I have had legs converted to coilovers with 200lb springs with new roller top mounts up top 2. New steering rack 3. New TCA with polybushed inner and outer 4. New Tie rod ends 5. Checked that the bolts hadnt ovalled the holes in crossmember 6. Rear end has had new single leafs, LSD fitted, poly bushed both ends, Adjustable shocks fitted etc 7. I have also tried a new steering wheel (clutching at straws) 8. Tried a new known good propshaft from a friend with no luck 9. Had 4 wheel alingment and tracking done 3/4 times now 10. Tried 3/4 sets of wheels all balanced, even balanced both sets of mine and fitted new tyres with no luck 11. Fitted nearing wheel bearings and hubs from GS escort up front. 12. Also while i was at it i fitted twin cam anti roll bar with double width kit 13. Had Princess Calipers rebuilt and new discs fitted Still got the issue ... so hopefully ill order these and try get them to fit, and fingers crossed, itll cure my issue. iandq
I would say if your wheels aren't running true, then you have possibly found your problem. do they centre on the hub spigot ok? are the cones where the nuts seat in good condition. has someone replaced the studs or re drilled the hubs ? just a few more things to check ( like you need a bigger list ! ) cheers, ian

mk1estate
sounds like youve covered most things, only thing i can think of is the wheels are not seating properly? are you useing the correct wheel nuts and are the mating surfaces free from anything. Give the rear of the wheels a good look at. Sometimes alloy wheels need special wheel nuts and if your using the original steel wheel nuts then youl get that problem, check everything is clean. Might be worth checking for play on all the front bushes and front crossmember bolts too Like you said in the end you just try anything till you find it good luck anyway and keep us informed

Ill keep looking when i get a chance, ordered the bushes for steering column aswell, mayswell rules them out. Cheers
