Jake100ePop 0 Report post Posted November 29, 2015 Hi there I have a ford pop 100e with a 1300 xflow, I've been having problems with my engine and I think it would be cheaper to upgrade to a pinto, does anyone know if that swap over would be easy? Thanks
mk2 tony 4 Report post Posted November 29, 2015 pinto is physically a bigger lump so may require bulk head / cross member mods to clear...plenty of people have done it though...why not replace with a 1600 crossflow? a power upgrade with minimal work. Hotspur 20 Report post Posted November 29, 2015 What have you done for the crossflow in regards to the bulkhead? If it's only been cut to suit the crossflow the you'll probably find the recess isn't tall enough for a pinto.
Jake100ePop 0 Report post Posted November 29, 2015 I've cut a lot of the bulkhead out already and 1600 is probably the answer. Do you know If the crossmember would need replacing for pinto conversion?
mk2 tony 4 Report post Posted November 29, 2015 depends on the shape of the sump i guess...they fit in a escort where a crossflow would go so should fit where your crossflow is now...if you have modified the bulk head already then it may slot in ok...bear in mind exhaust and inlet are the other way around to a crossfow
mk2 tony 4 Report post Posted November 29, 2015 what problems are you having with the 1300?
Hotspur 20 Report post Posted November 29, 2015 What crossmember are you currently using? Also are you rack and pinion or box steering?
Jake100ePop 0 Report post Posted November 29, 2015 Well I was sold a dodgy oil pump which was for the wrong block I think and it's basically ruined the whole engine so it would be cheaper to upgrade than to replace crank bearings and cam
Jake100ePop 0 Report post Posted November 29, 2015 I'm using a rack on what bib think is a 105e crossmember
Hotspur 20 Report post Posted November 29, 2015 If it's a R&P on a 105e crossmember then someone has made this. You may have a suspension geometry issue. But you can convert to Pinto easier as you'll already be using a rear bowl sump. Also what gearbox are you using? If it's the Escort one with the non removable bellhousing it won't last long behind a pinto. Why not get another 1300 or 1600 crossflow. As for your oil pump, there are two types but they do interchange. Have you tried a brand new one on there. Take a look over on 100e . com and look at some of the build threads and finished restos to see what others have done.
mk2 tony 4 Report post Posted November 29, 2015 what gearbox are you using? too slow lol
colr6 1,856 Report post Posted November 29, 2015 That's assuming the rack is mounted on the front of the crossmember. If it's mounted on the front then you would have to use rear bowl sump I presume or on the rear a front bowl sump
Hotspur 20 Report post Posted November 29, 2015 Colr6 you're right about the rack position. But I've only ever seen one rear mounted 100e rack, and that isn't on the road. It's very difficult to get both track rods and TCA inner pivots right with the rear mount option.
colr6 1,856 Report post Posted November 29, 2015 Trying to find out on the crossmember used rear mounted could be home made 105 using oe struts or front mounted would more than likely escort using escort struts because the other thing to be taken into consideration is the extra weight of the pinto
Hotspur 20 Report post Posted November 29, 2015 This car may have a 107e crossmember in. Looks very much like a 105e with the engine mounts but made to fit a 100e type bodyshell. Very difficult to identify without any pics.
colr6 1,856 Report post Posted November 29, 2015 With either I would suspect some suspension geometry issues as previous stated. I don't know start one job and possibly end up with two!
Jake100ePop 0 Report post Posted November 30, 2015 My rack is on the back of the crossmember and I have a front bowl sump and a 2000e gearbox, I will probably just get a 1600 x flow seems the most sane idea
Nathan70 7 Report post Posted January 10 Hello daft question Will pinto go on 1.3 x flo box
anglia58 104 Report post Posted January 10 a pinto will go on a 13 xfow box, you need a 1600 pinto flywheel, and the presureplate from an escort, this will fit the schaft on the box, and will fit the coverplate of the 1600 pinto, but the box won't last long, a 1300 will break a xflow box, mostly the small middle bearing so it will start to make noise, witch will get a lot more when you keep driving the box, cheers marcel just use the cover from an escort and the presure bearing, this will fit the 1600 flywheel, the 1600 pinto corver uses a differnt bearing, i am not sure it will fit the escort box, cheers marcel
