Australian Twincam Thread

Recommended Posts

This is a LHD 1300GT dash but that's pretty much how a deluxe Twincam would look. Even the wheel which had a padded rim still looked virtually identical to that standard one.

Funny bums! That's more a Volkswagen look rather than OSF

So Since you guys don't seem to like Momo wheels and think they look like they belong on boats I will abandon that idea and go for something less nautical. What do you think?

Add some spinners and then can I represent the Forum at Next Classic Ford then?  I love the look of horror in the morning!

And since square headlights are getting hard to find I may also convert to rounds as they seem to be preferred in the UK? I think the Lotus connection is a little too understated dont you think?

LOL that looks alot like the wheel I have on the car now. Seeing that on a boat puts me off it even more!

I must admit I liked the classic Momo leather one I posted images of above but the chromed spokes are just too much bling. I wish sand blasting wasn't hard on leather.

put pipe lagging round the leather then blast over the spokes or spray them black. it looks ok but for for me i only like the early mk1 thin wheel, springalex deep rally wheel, standard capri/escort 3 spoke or the rs dished 3 spoke. i just prefer period types.

We never got the Mk1 early wheel that is often associated with Twincams. I couldn't handle a thin Bakelite rim either. There has to be a leather grip of some sort. Springalex are too deep dished for me, it looks at home for rally cars but not an original classic. We do get the 3 spoke wheels here. Its the standard wheel on our Mk2 Rally Packs and RS2000s. It has that Mk2 association for me rather than at home in Mk1s. The Purple Twincam that I have posted images of before has one of those in it, it doesnt look right to me but maybe it needs an early centre cap.

I am looking for a period style wheel its just really hard to tick all the right boxes.

yeah i see what you mean, maybe the capri type center cap with an early mk2 base model middle. that had the writing rather than the blue oval also the script is same as the mk1 escort boot script. ive got one in the garage, i'll try and get a pic up for you.
