Even though the 'Twink ' is under powered, notoriously unreliable has only 8 valves it's still rated and admired by shall we say the older generation as been the one and only twink! Even though it has been overtaken in the power and reliability by the modern engines with the likes of zetec and red tops it's still the dogs the round ones of the twink world😉 That LOTUS word across the rocker cover is enough to attract anyone's attention and conversation no matter what it's in, can we say that for anything else NO.

The shiny Lotus on a crackle finish cam cover does make some wide eyed when I used to lift the bonnet. Followed by asking me how hard it was to shoehorn that engine into an old Escort only to be challenged with disbelief when I tell them Ford did it.

It really is an engine unlike any other Twincam you ever likely to try. Strictly speaking its a tricam. The sound with its rattly chain and the way it delivers power is very unique. I have even tried the Alfa engines of similar design and they still feel different. Try an opportunity to drive any vehicle with this Mundy engine to compare with the more modern stuff, you will be pleased you did for the classic experience rather than its brute power. Certainly modern engines wont start to splutter at 35 degrees Celsius as the fuel pre-atomizes, but I guess those there in the UK dont have that problem this time of year? (Or summer for that matter)

Where have the spoke markings gone?

Early 4 spokes don’t always have stamping in them, depended on who made them I believe

this set are mainly 72 dates my other set have markings

To me unless your doing a 100% concours resto what difference does it make what year they are ? They're round have the right style what more do you want ? I think if some went round looking at year dates on my car with those on and saying they're different dates, they'd be getting a swift kick up the arse!!🏃

I would be happy to have a set of Capri ones on mine. My Mk2 has Capri Lasers as well. Here no one can tell the difference!

LOL No I meant hardly anyone in Australia can really tell the difference between Mk2 RS cross wheels and Capri Laser ones that I have on my Mk2. Not that I would put them on my Twincam. Even more so locals would never spot Mk1 Capri wheels as they are even closer to the Escort ones. The guy that followed me home trying to buy my Capri Laser wheels for his purple Twincam found a set of his own so unfortunately there is a Twincam in my suburb with Capri Lasers. That's not as hard as him paying $3000 Aus to buy the wheels and restore them. When you live in the land of ugly wheels you arent as picky!

But for the roof gutter trims, they weren't fitted on any of the sporting Ford's here.

If you can get a set of mk2 JPS capri wheels then but for the 63mm centre bore (which you can machine out to 70mm) and a subtle difference in the part no on the spokes, they're identical

Really but I have seen images of Mexicos and RS2000s with the chrome gutter trims all the time? I know the chrome window surrounds aren't on your Sporting Mk1s it was part of the deluxe pack here but I thought the gutter trims were pretty much standard? The chrome boot trim is a bit much as are the overriders (Personal taste) but those changes came in late 1971. Early Twincams didn't have that.

Remember too that Twincams were sold here 2 years longer than the UK. (We never got the RS1600 to replace it) and with that came the yearly styling changes that came with the model line-up. My 1970 Twincam doesn't have reverse lights or overriders either but the later ones got them. In 72 the cars weren't even called Twincams but instead the GT1600 to bring it into like with its Falcon GT and Capri GTs as the reference term for its sporting models

My car is orange so if I were to put original wheels on it, it would look something like this

Are these Capri Laser wheels as well do you think? I didn't look that close on the day.

That's what I was saying, "but" for the gutter trims we don't have all the extra chrome bling.

Ahhhh I get you now! Yes you are right.

There are simple versions without the extra bling as well.

Yes they look like Lasers on the silver Twink-the metal thickness around the nut holes looks the same as the spoke thickness-easiest way to spot from afar.

As Vista said we had chrome gutter trim and possibly front/rear screen rubber inserts but no sill, boot or window trims on our RS models.

I’m slowly collecting mk1 RS alloys and getting them refurbished with correct colour insert

if you want some let me know

Whats the usual size tyres you guys prefer to fit to these 5.5in RS rims. My usual 205/60 13in is going to look a bit weird and tight on them I think.

That's awesome Marcel. I can definitely relate to being the fifth wheel LOL. You really shouldn't go raiding your own mums car for wheels though LOL Mine would happily give anything of mine car related away to anyone that came knocking. Car stuff was always regarded as annoying clutter that takes up space in her shed. The Twincam is stored under her carport in the prime place her Camry should be and she gripes about that often and im half certain if one of you guys ever went to her door and said that car looks nice she would reply instantly "Its yours!"

The colour of the wheel made me laugh as I have a Twincam engine photo that would work with that wheel perfectly!

That image is really how I remember most of the Twincams I drove over the years. They weren't these pristine coveted things you see today. A Twincam was just spare parts for Elans and other things back and more of a curiosity to other Escort owners than a car many sought after. The going rate for an RS2000 in the mid 80s was bout 6 to 7 thousand Australian dollars (Under 4000 pounds) with Twincams around 5 thousand AUS (3000 Pounds) mine was only 2 thousand pounds, the ring gear was gone in it and had to jump start it to get it home.

I use a 185/60/13 but depends on what you want?
