Hello Gents , and ladies,

Im Shaun from Durban down in South Africa,

Always have been into small old fords since lightie days.

Currently have a 27yr old Saffie 2.0 Gli , thats been in the family for 18 years,

And bought a minter 4door escort few years ago.

Huge , huge fan of Harris performance engines, and well any old  ford engine handing outing  lessons to the younger generation

Cool,

Thank you,

Please note Im not a fan of big wheels on small escorts, just tried on a new look.

The escort came with all its original trim , ie the color coded hubcaps and 13" biscuit tyres,

Managed to source 175/50s whilst adding a modern flair to an old wheel

Not a fan of the big wheels myself but wasnt going to say when you only just joined! LOL

I think the original chrome hubcaps on 13in steels that are a bit wider than were on originally would look pretty classic with that nice colour and chrome bumpers it has on it.

You mentioned colour coded hubcaps? Any images?

Shaun, you may want to put your two penneths worth into the discussion in the chit chat forum on your thoughts of the likes of us pulling cars out the country. A view from one of the other countries where cars are exported from to the uk could be interesting.

Thank you for the welcome Gents,

Ive seen many many cars disappearing here, cars being sold to family who then have been a stack load of money to sell and they gone.!

But honestly, there is some reall beauties still tucked away in the Midlands of South Africa,

I hunted for like 2 years and a close friend spotted this one the rural areas , like 800kms from the sea.

The car has all original body panels and paint and engine,  but the someone converted it to a manual gearbox and made a hash of it.

My plan first to gut it and go for a sport look , but its grown on me and it will be kept all original on looks, Mods will be under the skin .

Hard to belive a 38 year old paint job still intact mind the stone chips. Ofcourse I have no plans on repainting either , as its only original once

I like to hear the story about the exhaust manifold, as Rally Pack said, "impressive", but why? The hub caps look like standard late model Mk 1 Escort that have been colour coded, (similar to Mk1 Granadas?) I love a dog dish hub cap.

Is the white vinyl roof a Ford fit, it suits the pale blue.

The headers  were locally made up back in the day by a local company called Brospeed. I heard that these were used on the formula ford open wheeled cars.

Notthing impressive really, but similar spec to the what HPE or other tuning guys would use.

I dont have the head to match the headers just  yet. and its begining to burn my starter wires too. But its Work in progress

Welcome Shaun. Missed this back in 2017!! Nice "factory" looking more-door you got there. Look good with a set of Lotus steels and try the hub caps on them.
Love the exhaust manifold too....

Fast forward to 2021.

Its been 4 yrs of owning the little Mk2. just when I thought id have the Kent screamer built, with the the go faster goodies,

Got hit with an urge to go the Pinto Route, so used Lock down to effectively strip it all out again,

As events unfolded, my auto gearbox on the saffy seen its days so ended up buying a complete non runner Gli just for the 5speed. Teh Pinto thus comes in handy along the extremely usefull other bits like fuel lines, wiring, etc etc,

Lets hope its not another 4 yrs to get her back on the road

now on coilies.jpg

Used the lock down to teach myself how to weld, spray paint etc., Thus I tried my Hand at building the coilvers using eth unversal sleeve over sets. Still in the process of final mockup before welding.

Also I decided to go with a 15inch wheel as opposed to 13 inch. I cant put my finger on it, but it doesnt look right?

Perhaps the front needs to go down another 30mm?

Missed this the first time round, so a belated welcome to OSF

Cars look great, and love the work on the Escort. I tried 15" wheels on mine for a bit, lasted about 2 weeks then went back to 13's, just didnt sit right, and mine is already low so couldnt go down lower

Were those 13's Starmags?

Thanks again,

Im guessing the tyres are going to rub , but its on a 195 right now, Theres plenty options these days on 15 inch, can go to a 175/50 in 15 as well,

The "5 Star " wheel is just a local knockoff rim , its on 6J wide and I wasn't to fond of it.

Nonetheless, will lower an inch and see. the Pinto is yet to go in, so it will go down a bit more
