Wheeler Dealers mk1 Escort

Recommended Posts

I bought the mk1 Wheeler Dealer car from the program after seeing it advertised on the 'turbosport' forum.  I had the engine replaced for a 1700 xflow built and fitted by Colin Ashton.

I didn't use it enough and sold her to get a genuine RS2000 mk1 but now she's back where she belongs.  She's back with me and now she's never going!

I've made a few changes... The rear now is satin blacked...

Removed the spots, was...

Still looks good...

Now, I need to sell my mk2 ☹️

Nice, didn't like the 2 up spots to be honest. I met the father of the lad from the tv show as he was selling his JPS capri.

I think it should go back to copper bronze too :-D

I prefer the copper bronze but that would be too expensive!

Curious as to why you wanted back over a mk1 RS2000 so long after you sold it Max?

Welcome back BTW

Scott, I thought I was over Escorts so I sold the RS last year.  Unfortunately, you can take the boy out of the Escort but can't take the Escort out of the boy!  I tried a TVR for a while but ended up back in an Escort.. mk2.  The mk2 is lovely but my main love is the mk1.

I've got the genuine RS thing out of my system now, so the modified xflow yellow peril is back... And it was £9k cheaper than the RS!

Isn't that a few grand cheaper than you paid for it the first time? With prices rising so dramatically you were lucky it hadn't escalated past the original price.

I paid £11,800 for it in 2013, spent a fortune on the engine, better seats, manifold, exhaust, wheels, quarter bumpers etc.. then sold for £14,200 in 2014 and then I bought it back 3 years later - now 2017 - for £14,200 but it needs some engine work.  I'm happy because I sold my RS for £23,500 so I'm quids in!

What engine work does it need so soon after it was built?

The guy I sold it to didn't use it enough but when he did he managed to blow a piston... I don't know why he bought it, it's been sitting in a Barn for 2 years, unmoved.  Anyway, I'm glad be wasn't really into it as it meant it came back home where it belongs.

I can't wait to hear her roar again.

I only just recently watched this episode on the Escort, and I also noticed the mk2 Capri on the drive, was quite surprised Mr Brewer never mentioned it. Anyway, nice to see the car will again be ready for some road action - very cool mk1.

I followed this episode with one about a green Lambo Uraco - that was a good watch as well.

Hi Max. you may recall 7 years ago I contacted you when you were selling this on ebay and I tried to buy it only to be advised by ebay that I had a limit of 16k bidding total (something I was no aware of) hence I lost out with my bid.

Am really glad that you got the opportunity to buy it back as I continuously looked out for it to be possibly sold by the person you sold it to but with no joy.

Anyway, I now have a lovely mk1 Daytona Yellow escort which is my pride and joy .

Hope you are still enjoying your stunning wheeler dealer mk1.

Cheers

Paul.

Did you take it back to Colin or Joe Ashton to get the engine sorted ?

I took her to another place, I like to use different places.  Obviously, Colin and Joe did a brilliant job as the engine is still running sweet.

Hi Paul!  Yes, I remember you were gutted at the time, I must admit I was a bit annoyed as well as it went for around £14,200, your £16,000 would have been useful at the time!  Anyway, I'm glad you found another daytona mk1!  Maybe we'll be able to get them together at some point!

Max
