A reasonable turn out of Anglias but strangely not a single 105e

Even more strangely was the exceptionally poor showing of Mk2 Escorts given they were assembled here in Sydney. I saw only one RS2000 and it was a European one and this lone Mk2 L with spoilers and a 2lt Pinto in it that it didn't have originally.

Capris were very popular and spread all over the event, some with the Euro Ford groups, some on their own club stands and others in with the muscle.

Although only Mk1 Capris were made here a few Mk3s at the event managed to find it to warmer climates. If you have looked at the "Orange is the New Black" thread you may recognise this Orange beauty. (Ands its for sale! for the princely sum equivalent to 20,000 pounds). I have to see the Twincam to fund it though.

Even with all that bonnet space the Capri boys over with the Street Machines seem have trouble getting it all under the hood!

Some lovely looking cars there JP, does strike me though there a few odd colours tending to appear. Colours that you would not normally see put on a certain car.

That's interesting, what colours did you suspect weren't meant to be there? There was an great amount of purple which I wasn't expecting.

Nice motors I notice the rs1600 has a few little engine bay changes, Mexico looks nice

Not being a model sold here I'm not sound in my knowledge of them add I had only seen three previously in 30 years and today there were three different ones I hadn't seen before. What looks out of place or different?

Washer bottle shouldn’t have a electric motor they worked off a pedal pump

brake and clutch pipes should be black with the famous yellow stripe and top hose red stripe also

servo is also different

im talking about the bronze car the white car you’ve just posted is much more correct still missing the right yellow striped pipes and blue rocker cover should be black or plain no colour

I remember going through Stage 1 Motorsports list of things when I was looking for parts for my Twincam and remember seeing the yellow striped brake and clutch pipes listed. I always wondered about the significance of that. Australian Twincams would never have used them though and sourced something locally, same with the top radiator hose. I never realised they had a red strip on the overseas ones till you just mentioned it and looked at the brochure I have. I dare say the bronze car just used one sold locally for our Twincams. I knew some of the later cars used a different servo but these cars seem to use the same Girling one as on my Twincam, did some RS1600s use the early Twincam type and others a later type? The blue cam covers are correct though as my fold out RS1600 sales brochure has a photo of the engine on one side that's almost a poster in itself LOL

Its such an elusive model to me as there were never many imported here so many of those little details are still there for me to learn. Having three in one place presented the first opportunity to do a study of them. Fortunately many things are shared with Twincams so I have a base with which to start.

Plain alloy grey on yours looks good too. I think that engine top would look good in any colour. What year model is yours?

The washers and wipers work off a foot pedal probably the same setup as twin cam ? , I haven’t got any pictures of the finished car yet as I’m coming to the end of a long restoration, soon now though ?

Yes my Twincam just has a foot pump washer but without the foot trigger for the wipers at the same time that was an advancement later than mine after 1970. The Haynes manual list that type but also a motorised type and they show a diagram for the RS1600 and Mexico. Im not sure is that was just a later edition or you had to specify it as an option?

Um never seen one with a genuine motorised version usually something someone’s put on later ,just studied Factory original escorts and all have foot pedal variants even the later RS2000 cars 1974 have pedal , might have been a option but there’s no mention of it

I will try copy the Haynes manual diagram and post it. Its an interesting variant then if the manual is correct.

Interesting The one thing I notice from that is the later tank so probably a later addition to the range then maybe

That's probably it but the bronze one is still using the cheese bottle so as you originally pointed out the motor probably shouldn't be there. Odd too is that the white RS1600 is also using the cheese washer bottle but it looks to have a bracket on the plenum chamber for the later type bottle but its not being used.

I looked at three later Twincams at the show and all had a different set up for the washer again with a wrap around metal strap holding it in place.

The neatest arrangement I think is the type with the plenum chamber bracket. This was one with one of those aftermarket replica bottles which apart from lacking the Ford badge does look good all new and white.

AllFord50.thumb.jpg.192d854e71f36c1f16a503964234a2dd.jpg

My Twincam has never had a washer bottle as long as I have owned it although its foot pump is in place. I am undecided what type to put into it. There seems no indication what type it had but I suspect being a 1970 is was the cheese type. I hate that type though as they are so expensive and all gone a horrible yellow. All the later Australian Twincams though appear to have the later type with the mounting strap.

Mines got the bracket for the other bottle as well that was normal over here , I haven’t seen a uk twin cam with that bracket arrangement around it also only cheesewedge on uk twin cams I think , I reckon your right it would have been a cheese wedge in 1970 and they were never white ford describe them as off white in other words dirty yellow lol .

Does your car have the three little pegs sticking upright on the bulkhead for the cheese wedge to fit on like this pic of mine ?

notice the other bracket aswell
