1300 2 1600

Recommended Posts

Afternoon all.

I recently baught a 1600 xflow  for my MK1 1300.

I want to fit the engine to see what ive got.

If its faulty in any way i can address it this winter.

Questions.

Is it as simple as just taking one out and fitting the other?

Want to use the 1300 flywheel/starter combo for now and use the 1300 box.

Any dramas with fitting the flywheel to a 1600 crank?

Cheers Rich

Never done this but do know that the 1300 exhaust downpipe is shorter than the 1600 so you'll likely need to change that.

Got a new exhaust to go on.

My concern is the engine and box mating together.

Want to keep the car mobile whilst the sun shines.

But dont want to buy a 1600 box yet.

engine and box does fit together, i'm pretty sure the flywheels are the same. its been a while since i played with crossflows. as above the down pipes are different lengths cos the 16 sits about an inch higher than the 13. if you look at where the box mounts to the back of the block, look at the distance between the box and the line where the head sits against the block you will see the difference in height.

Thanks, yeh i know about the height different on the blocks.

Ive baught an ashley system inc manifold from motorsport tools. Just had a quick look. Doesnt say weather its for a 13 or 1600. So i assume it'll fit both. Hanging lower on the 1300s.

Going to do the swap friday eve and dont want it to be a wasted excersise.

Just a bit of an update.

Engine is in and turning over.

The new ashley manifold doesnt fit due to the brake servo/tower being in the way. So that wont be fitted untill the car is a rhd.

And no spark to the plugs.

Was quite late by that point so called it a day.

Dont have any time to look at it till next week now.

It'd have been nice to hear it running but there you go.

When was car modding ever straight forward???? 😁

Fitted the old manifold back on.  Going to have to figure out a way to use the old system for now otherwise thats it for this year.

Trial fitting the exhaust i can see its very close to the floor. I'll try and address that on friday evening.

But the good news is that i fitted the dizzi from my old engine and its a runner :arnie:

So, an update.

With a bit of work i got the exhaust sorted for now. All connected, no blows and havnt set the carpetin the footwell on fire!

Set the points, timing and carb up.

Runs nice and pulls well.

Got tapoet noise but don't know what to set the clearences too.

Anyone know what the settings should be?

711 1600cc.

Got no idea what the engine came out if or what year it is.

Cheers Rich

Ok.  Finally had a trouble free run in the car yesterday. Had its 1st run last week and the coil went down. Then took the car out mid week and broke down after 5 minutes, carb issue (my fault). Friday i had the carb to bits, rechecked  co,points timing etc.....

Finnished work at 12. Jumped into the car and headed to the nearest fuel station.  50 miles later and all is well 😁.

Drives really nice and pulls well.

Happy Happy Happy  👍

Seems that way. Theres a very slight ticking noise that i need to look into that comes and goes. Got it in my mind that it maybe a snapped ring.

But itll be comming off the road soon for a loong winter of work. So ill investigate more then.
