Mk2 Escort Restoration / Rally Build

Nice project , I keep looking at shells and wonder how much work it is for a diy to get it up for paint

I have also thought this with a MK1, but wonder if my Missus would end up phoning Car SOS when I'm about 80, saying "It has no sentimental value to us. We just want it out of the garage, so I can park my car in there during the winter".

Looking forward to lots of pics on this Mk2 resto build. Should be informative.

Got to admire some of the skills that go into these builds.

It will be built for classic rally, thats 75% new panels to remove the rust from the car.

Retro fabricated rollcage, seam welded, leaf sprung rear axle with an anti tramp kit,

Not sure on engine yet but will have an enlarged gearbox tunnel too

Usually by the time the shell has been rebuilt....sandblasted, panels, welding, more panels, more welding.... prob even more panels and welding... bodywork and into paint....there aint much left in the mk1 kitty for a pinto...never mind a BD etc!!!
Thats how it was for me anyhow!!

Good luck with this mk2 tho mate and keep the pics coming

It's surprising (or maybe not!!) how much rot and repairs sandblasting reveals. I thought my mk1 was pretty good.... until it came back from blasting. HOW BAD was it??
Still....shows what you got and what's needed to make it good.

Onwards and upwards mate
