Mk2 escort pinto

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone

so I’m putting a 2.0 pinto in my mk2 escort and I’ve just got a couple of questions regarding exhaust and radiator.

with the pinto I’m planning on having a 4 branch manifold and was wondering if anyone had encountered any problems with room etc near the steering colomn I’m hoping the exhaust has enough room to go round. The next question is regarding the radiator and the fan as I had to remove the fan to get the engine in for a test fit but did look close to the space where the rad sits. Does the rad sit flush in the hole or does it stand proud, I know these may seem like silly questions but I do not have the rad or exhaust to try yet And don’t want to spend loads of money on them if I have to fabricate my own exhaust and alter the rad aperture to fit thanks guys

Not done this upgrade myself...but the rs2000 mk1 and 2 has the 2.0 pinto. Copy the rs engine bay and you won't go far wrong....

It depends how big u go on the four branch.

I have an Ashley 3 piece 2 1/4" manifold in my mk1. I got it in but not easily and had to make some changes to the servo tower. Including, as a precaution, changing the plastic bushes out for bronze ones.

I do not have a servo tower was more concerned about the colomn.

the manifold I was looking at is on eBay at a 2” sportex but there’s no point in buying one if it’s not gonna fit

I think you'll be OK with a 2" manifold, but sometimes the only way to be sure is take the plunge and get on and do it. Plenty of people have them fitted so it must be doable.

There’s hundreds been fitted so should be no issues, be prepared for a bit of tweaking as Sportex are not one of the most well made.

I fitted a sportex to mine and was fine. Make sure you buy an escort as others won't fit.

On my pinto I removed the Sid vicious cooling fan and fitted electric fan on the side nearest the front grill.

If your going from x flow to pinto make sure you do a proper job on the alternator wiring.
