Spot light brackets

They are the same as our Rally Pack Brackets that I can get some pics of for you. Its 5am here, just need to wait till the sun comes up if you dont mind waiting. There are two types that I know about though that are almost identical but have different holes depending on the ball and threaded base of the lights themselves. I have seen a third type on some images of overseas Sports that only have a front mounting bolt, whereas the ones here are the two bolt type one at the front and one on top that tucks under the grill. There is then a secondary L shaped bracket that has a captive nut in it that goes on the other side of the front apron that acts as a strengthening plate as well as both nuts that clamps everything together

Thanks RP, there are a pair of brackets on fleabay listed as extra light mounts for the mk2 and as escort prices go they’re a gift. Still in the ford packets but ar3 taking some selling which makes me think.

Have you got a link? I couldn't see any that looked original on Ebay UK just then when I looked.

Now that the sun has come up here are the images as promised.

And the inner clamp bracket that goes on the other side of the apron to provide strength against panel flexing but also both captive nuts that take the bolts being screwed in from the front to clap everything together.

The brackets in the first two images are the later version. You will note that the bolt holes for the lights are elongated. This was to incorporate a later style of Carello light that had a matching elongated bolt pin and ball joint base. This superseded the previous round type with the intent to help prevent the lamps being swivelled when bumped or lent on while you were working on the car. With the elongated version they could only be twisted when their base nut was partially loosened whereas the round ones were easy to tap and go out of alignment even with the nut tight.

They look somewhat different to the ones I’ve just got. I also got a pair of  carello spots for the front, keeping somethings std looking anyway. Some mods may have to be done to stiffen them up like the rear plate you have shown. Time will tell.

I have never seen a set like the ones that you bought. But well worth the money even as a curiosity. The ones I have pictured fetch some big money these days. Like 100 to 150 quid for the pair and then rarely with the rear support ones. But they do appear fairly often here as Ford Australia used the same brackets and Carellos on Cortinas and Falcons. There don't appear to be any at the moment but next time I see a set come up I will post you a link.

I cant compete with Marcel's wonderful new front brackets but I have a single spare of the supporting rear brackets that matches up with them I am happy to give you too. It can at least give you a template for the other side?

Tip though is to use this one for the passenger side light. A little quirk is that the holes for the brackets were put in by hand and there is no latitude for error or variability in the shells themselves so often even if mounted in the exact central position what is precisely the place they should be from the outside the inner support bracket for the drivers side light touches the chassis rail and you cant get the bolts in. I have seen this alot with my own car included. So in the factory they simply ground down one side of the inner bracket till the holes aligned with the captive nuts! If removed you may wonder why the bracket looks strangely asymmetrical. So when making a drivers side inner bracket make it a few millimetres thinner than the original bracket so you don't leave yourself wondering why it doesn't clear the chassis rail. The factory couldn't do it either!

Bet you didn't realise there were going to be so many issues just to fit a couple of spotties did you? LOL

I blame all this on everyone else ! All this authenticity! To many conversations with the likes of yourself and Ray is rubbing off on me🤪 I still walk past the ohv Kent engine and think ....that’ll look nice with a twin cam head bolted to it !!🤔😜 oooopps..lol
