Mk2 Switch Query

Hi All,

I was going through the wiring & switches for my Mk2 RS and whilst the rear screen and fog light have 'on' illumination the Hazard switch doesn't appear to have any. Checked the part number and it checks out - seems odd to me but I guess two flashing indicator warning lights gives it away - just thought it odd? If anyone knows of an illuminated switch that would fit, give me a shout.

Anyone got a view on this as i'm about to start re-assembling my dash and the std non - illuminating switch just looks so wrong?

I'm not clear what you're asking. Is it whether it should illuminate? Or how to make it illuminate?

For the record, mine does illuminate in a standard mk2 switch so they are out there as an option.

You could try this transit one, the triangle is a different orientation but I bet the plug connections are the same.

Ford Cortina MK4 & MK5, the switch number needs to start 74BG, the whole switch number is -:    74BG 13A 350 AA

I have no new spare one's to sell, but I may have a good used one if your not able to find one on Ebay etc-etc, you will need to make sure the switch has got it's removable lamp holder with it.

Regards.

The Escort came from the factory with non illuminated switches, switch id is 75AB, but most got changed to Cortina items over the years, I have bought 2 new Cortina hazard switches when they were £4.32 each, but will fit them to my own Escorts, they are £35+ now when they come up.

Late Cortina MK3 used the same illuminated switch in the run out models before MK4.

Actually all the switches come in both illuminated and non illuminated form (with one exception that I haven't seen yet). Dash dimmer, hazard, driving light all come in both illuminated and non-illuminated versions, the only switch I have never seen in person is the rear demister in non illuminated form. I have examples of all seven switches I will post a picture one day. In the case of the illuminated hazard switch you see it in early Mk2 Ghias here but it was replaced by a non illuminated one in all later cars.

Above Ebay number is the switch you need complete with the lamp holder.

Bugger - missed that one and I ain't adding 100% on top of a reasonable price 'just cos its an 'RS' part'

I think i'll persevere with the non illuminated one !

@scott The switch I have has the hole for a bulb but has no inbuilt earth for it to work - Illuminated switches obviously must have a separate / additional contact for earthing - that was the basis of the query which now seems well answered.

Thank you all.

How about the transit one I linked to? The connection pattern looks the same.

Yes the pin pattern is identical to a non illuminated one I have - the std loom plug even has a wire to the bulb pin even though it doesn't work ! I guess that was Ford mentality one loom but two different switches LOL!

Hi Ian,

If your not in a rush (say next week to 10 days), I will have found which box has my spare switches in and I know I have the correct "Illuminated" hazard switch with the correct "Symbol Orientation" on.

If you still have the alternator bracket for the "RS", we can have a deal on that (Not a straight swap, the bracket is worth more than the switch), if that is any good for you.

Cheers.
