Period number plates

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to replace  the new style plates on my MK1 with black and silver pressed aluminium ones, are these suitable for the period of car? can anyone recommend a supplier, I've seen Chestnut Registrations advertise a bit.

Yes I believe the law changed regarding black plates few years back to include a mk1 so will be ok.

There are loads of suppliers just try and find ones with good feedback/reviews. I have heard the black bit falling off some as they use a plastic rather than paint.

Use of black and white / silver plates is now linked to the rolling 40 year VED exemption.

I prefer the raised letter plates to the pressed aluminium ones. I bought the set I have on the Alfa from a company displaying at the NEC classic car show a few years ago but can't for the life of me remember who they were.

I've been looking at getting a pair of yellow and white raised letters from them. Look good on the website.

they are good tbh, they do the pressed ones as well, and restore your old plates if you want, and tbh, ive found their restoration prices very cheap
