Genuine Twin Cam ?, in OZ,  if so lucky man, still miss my LC 40 years on 😢.

J

Twincams were also built in Australia so not as rare as you may think.

A mate of mine, he actually worked for AVO in Boreham as an engineer, bought a 68 TC in 1975, had it 3 months and didn’t like it !!, he swapped it for a Vauxhall Firenza Droop Snoot 🤡.

J

I have driven many Twincams (16 in Total) and virtually no 2 drive alike. After 7 years I can imagine it was probably pretty tired as well. But to be fair they may not be everyones cup of tea, you cant cruise in them as well as say an RS2000. Twincams do require more dedication and maintenance than other more road suited Escorts.

16, blimey, what’s your involvement with them ?.

Agreed, but Twink still my favourite engine, gave me much pleasure and loved fiddling with it !.

J

Just started out with one high-school friend having one, then one for sale in the next street over so I test drove it, and others that I saw for sale in my area, then I bought my own and when you go to shows and meets all the other Twincam owners are curious about others and like to do swapsies so you get try heaps of others that way. ( I even swapped a drive for an Honda NSX once) Most were years ago and not overly valuable at that stage so when prices sky-rocketed I though my chances of driving any more was over but last year a guy who owns the purple one you see in that thread followed me home wanting to buy my wheels so got to add that one to my tally. Didn't part with my wheels though.

Mk2 Lotus Cortinas seem to be better value than Escorts if you want an engine to tinker with.

Well I did not know they were built in OZ, learnt something, where ?.

J

They were assembled along side other Escorts at the Ford Plant in Homebush in Sydney from complete knockdown parts from the UK

Whats the spec of your engine ?, 40 years on still remember mine, a bit anal I know.

Enjoyed our chats, thanks.

Doesn't seem to be much input on this forum ?.

J

Its just a standard 1550 and has its original 40mm Webers it came out of the factory with in 1970.

Its just a time thing, Im generally online when most arent around due to the time difference although now is about the time all the UK posters start messaging.

I was hoping you would post pictures. Simply the best colour for a Montreal. Most I see images of are red.

This rough looking RHD orange Montreal that has been laid up for 15+ years sold at the Classic Auction at the NEC this afternoon for nearly £40k.  Makes mine the bargain of the century at £8k.

Madness

Maybe.......but they only ever made about 180 of them in RHD and where else can you get a period thoroughbred fuel injected quad cam Italian V8 without paying telephone number money for a Ferrari / Lamborghini?

Real madness is paying £90k for a standard 3 door Cosworth.

You made a good investment there and a worth while profit! (Spare a few Talons for an old ex Leper?)

The classic car boom especially with cars like the Montreal are about style form and shape that is lost in modern car design. Now its all about adding strange an unusual geometric shapes to certain parts of the car to fulfil the obligation to an annual model change where as in the past a good design could play out for years to recoup the investment in that design. As such much of the consumer market looks cheap and designed by school kids doing sketches of their dreams cars in the middle of geometry classes. Add to that the home enthusiast cant work on the modern vehicles at home due to their plastic and complexity, the boom towards the classics is even more greatly assured.

You going to be safe this week @Rally Pack 2000 with the fire warnings?

Yes Im pretty sheltered where I am although not far from some of the spots fires in the Blue Mountains. The really devastating stuff is mainly North at the moment in Northern NSW and Southern Queensland. Hundreds of homes and a few lives lost sadly. Thanks for asking though it is greatly appreciated. The really sad part is the really hot Summer Bushfire season hasn't even started yet

I was just reading they'd given a 'Catastrophic' fire warning level for the Blue Mountains.

If you want to bring your Fords down to me to look after for 'a while' then I really don't mind. emoji848.png

Yes its only a matter of time before the Blue Mountains goes up yet again. One of my favourite spots I walk the dog through the bush there has a burned out spot but it was only about 50 feet in diameter. Its a Miracle that it seems to have been put out before it destroyed the whole area. My cars dont even have a garage (Just a carport) and the soot and ash in the air has coated them. Its particularly noticeable on the white one. I just put a cover over it not 10 mins ago to try keep some of the muck off. Where are you at the moment?

Green for Twincam, Black for Rally Pack.

I'm living in Neutral Bay on the North Shore. Had a weekend in Leura not long back. Beautiful up there.

You should still be getting alot of the smoke and ash all the same even though you have a better offshore wind to clear things a bit. The other day I couldn't see the city at all from the lookout where I can normally see the bridge. Last week it was dirt from a dust storm during the night and his week its ash and smoke.

Leura is very nice. I would hold off weekends there at the moment though.
