Battery Clamp Bolt for mk2 RS2000

Unlikely, mk1 will be imperial thread and mk2 metric thread. My money is on it being an m8 bolt. Just pick one up from your local bolts and fittings shop and it'll do.

Forgive my blunt reply but you seem to be stressing & have been posting this request everywhere with very little success for what is a very stock, very standard M8 hex head 30? mm bolt? I can't even imagine what possessed the garage to allow you to know it went missing - why didn't they just replace with another? Or is it the actual clamp they lost which should be a bit trickier to source and thus your description isn't helping?

They lost the bolt..replaced it with a shiny shorter one which didn't hold the clamp in place. Not stressing but the car went thro a major strip down/resto 6 years ago and we didn't lose one bolt!!...found one that fits just now but pretty sure the original one was slightly tapered...but as it wasn't moved for years I might be mistaken

Yes the original on my Mk2 is a 13mm hex but its unique in that it has a very wide flange head with incredibly sharp knurling that's unlike any I have seen for sale in shops. A regular one will do the trick but I can tell an original Ford battery tray bolt at a glance its that distinctive.

This is the sort of stuff that p**ses off normal people - OEM's using a 'unique' part (with its attendant cost / availability) when a simple std bolt and star or spring washer would suffice! Even better would have been a welded stud and a nyloc nut to retain the clamp! My 2002 Honda motorcycle is just the same - easy to build in the factory but even simple service items are incredibly difficult to resolve - no wonder current mechanics tend to be fitters rather than repairers!

Everyone has a line they draw for originality and how extreme they want to go. With bolts I reached a point where I got sick of breaking the heads off rusty originals. It was specifically the bumper bolts when I decided to make the change. When I looked, someone in the UK was offering identical black anodised stainless ones. Ever since then I have systematically swapped over a number of nut and bolt to stainless that didn't need to be hardened as I work on various areas of the car. In places it even looks new and neat too. I did try going one step further in some situations like using even fancier titanium bolts in places like my alternator but the exhaust guy took a liking to them and nicked 'em. So don't go overboard and stick to stainless lol

I would be curious to learn if replacing originals with stainless would be detrimental in concours?

Everytime I strip or change a part on mine it gets swapped out for a hex head, either stainless or sometimes black. Even got a lot of Nordlock washers in place as well. 

Will have to be careful though as I might end up going over the 8 point rule and get put on a Q plate. 😁

As for concours purists looking at my sh1tbanger... 😛

Poss that the garage "LOST IT ON PURPOSE" !!!!!??????, 

 

Very rare bolt with trapped on locking washer.

 

I had 6  brand new ones at the start of this year, and all 6 sold within a month at £55 each, I have put 2 new ones on my own Escorts, so should have the old one's somewhere in the boxes of stuff, if I find one in the next few days while ferreting about, I will let you know.

My 1970 MK1 capri 3000E also was fitted with a new one and the welded nut in the battery tray was still metric M8, so poss MK1 Escort would be M8. !!??.
