caprimk1v4
Not good at all, I would love to own a car that once belonged to my Dad, The owner must be heart broken, is there any chance it could be rebuilt !!??, I know 90% of the stuff is burnt away, but the shell is still intact !!, I would have no problem in giving away parts that would help in its resurrection, as I am sure others on here would do. Whatever comes out I would just like to say how sorry I am for the owner, 2020 has not been nice for them to date.
katana
Problem with using a burnt out shell is the actual steel - a fire that intense affects its metallurgy and not in a good way. So it could be blasted, re painted and re-fitted but be a death trap in a crash!

Could you actually insure it again as a total loss in such circumstances?

Under my insurance as a classic I get to keep the wreck and can rebuild it if I wanted but most modern cars once they are written off by insurance companies that's the end of the road for them. It would also depend on the aluminium compliance plates, if they were totally destroyed then probably it could never be registered again but I personally would still do it as it would be something that would take me decades so it would just be a static retirement project.
