Yes, though I'd likely only do it if it were mechanically necessary. I.e. lights the existing lights were knackered.

1. The light output on Square lights is much less

2. Square lights are extremely hard to find the right replacements for

3. Round ones look better.

4. My car, my choice :wiggle:

Thats the thing I think they may be embraced more if better halogen versions were available in the UK. Here Hella made H4 versions which are every bit as good as the rounds. Point 2 is definitely the biggest problem. They used to be very easy to get even after-market H4 ones made in Taiwan but it really has become a problem that would sway some people on to rounds. Maybe they look slightly better but it really does come down to personal preference. Its really too close to call that it would sway me one way or other. On your last point I saw a show on Aston Martins once and the owners said that they dont own their cars they simply hold them in trust for future generations, so you have no say in the matter!! 🥳 So you better watch yourself or I will set the baby on you!

I think the rounds just come from the sporty ones having round headlights? I dont think id change them just for the sake of changing if it were original.

How very dare you paul! may i remind you my 1300gt in1968 was the very first sporty escort at launch! haha

Query - Why refer to them as square headlights when they are clearly rectangular? Square lights is wot I think of in Mk2 Escort Popular's! - it confuses my melon!

What ? ? ? Is smoke starting to affect you?

Hmmm there was apparently a hidden crop in the scrub of the local fires where I walk the dog. It did smell sweeter than the usual burning gum tree I must admit and the dog had a case of the munchies afterwards.

The real reason would probably mess with peoples heads. Mk1 Headlights are actually neither square nor rectangle. They are the geometric shape call a stadium.

So too the Mk2 Square headlights you refer too are not square either. They are slightly wider than tall so they are in fact rectangles and with their rounded corners become rounded rectangles. So it all gets rather wacky by this point for the non geometrically minded so precise terms go out the window in favour of a generalised descriptive overviews.

Another similar example of the round / square thing is sort of like using the term like black and white just to differentiate two opposing contrasts of a number of things not just the actual specific colours of black and white. So by default we fall back on the two basic contrasts that easiest to process at a glance of round vs square. Mind you I would love to walk into a auto shop and ask for a set of Stadium lights for an Escort and see their response!
