BROWNY 1968 98
ive been wanting to start a thread for a while now, I tried to put a picture on here a while ago but kept saying files too big 😕 got it figured out now, so here goes i like to have a build thread on a forum as a database of progress or failure as its something you can refer back to in the future (hopefully) so ive owned this mk2 since 1989, only bought it cos it was pinto powered and really cheap( really rusty aswell if i remember correctly) its been through loads of different phases, ratty road car, then in 93 stripped it and rebuilt it and turned into a sprint car, then a rally car, then it was used for drag racing, its been laid up for a couple of years since were not allowed to race at north weald anymore, so ive started a bit of a resto as its getting a bit tired. will get some pics up as i progress more soon cheers.

BROWNY 1968 98
the quickest it ran was with the old pinto that we blew up was 13.1 @ 99mph that was with the big nitrous jets in, hence why it went bang 🙁 with the new engine its not as quick, but we have swopped to the smallest jets at the moment, runs in the mid 14's @ 90ish mph 🙂 cheers.

BROWNY 1968 98
cheers huge, yeah got a few pics to share. engine back in, we took it for a tune up, was a few years back, went to peter baldwin, just outside of royston, about 2 hours on the rollers ended up with 167 bhp, not bad for an old sierra engine screwed together by me 😎

BROWNY 1968 98
thats without the nitrous, was all fresh at the time, had'nt done any running in miles, was bad enough thrashing the arse off it to set it up, without putting it under more strain, we did a couple of rwyb's with no gas then we got some really small jets and tried it with those. 14.5's is where its at now, bit slower than its best, but still puts a smile on ya face 👍

BROWNY 1968 98
yes mate, been drilling loads of bits, its free horsepower 😆 took out the indicator lamps, but wanted too keep the lenses so it still looks like a whole car, so my son made these little brackets out of alloy and drilled them full of holes 😉

BROWNY 1968 98
cheers mark 😉 so ive been getting a bit obsessed with weight reduction, or free horsepower as i like to call it, i started to put a couple of small bits back onto the car, and i cant help myself, but i keep weighing everything, my new rear brake discs are lighter than the mk3 escort ones i took off, now im on the lookout for a nice lightweight pair of motorbike brake calipers, the nitrous bottle spacer bracket weighed just over 1lb so ive made a new one that is less than half that, also been looking at lightweight rear bumpers, carbon fibre £130 not in my budget, fibreglass £60 better, but how much lighter is it than my rs bumper, i know the end caps weigh 1lb each, i need to take of the bumper bar off and weigh that next, and where i have been doing rust repair, i have kept every bit of rusty metal that i have chopped out in a plastic storage container, which tonite i weighed, 21kilos 😲 wow, i dont think i put that much weight back in it, least i hope not, more soon 😁
