Cheers JB 👍 it’s cellulose

I’ve only ever used aerosols & results have been ok for a novice but quite expensive so...gotta give it a go & try something new 😁

Great, its less deadly, but less forgiving of your prep work.

99% prep to primer.

1% top coat

😁

Thanks - not expecting to get it right first time but do want the experience of having a go, just connecting all the Air pieces together was a puzzle ‘what could possibly go wrong’ 😳

Yep, doing it yourself is very satisfying, plus you're saving a lot of money, and you can say, "I did it myself" to admiring onlookers 😁

Done it! First ever spray paint ‘job’ on the underside of Daisy’s boot lid (thought it best to practice there)

First I made myself a spray booth 😂 with an old shower door, sheet, cardboard.

Rubbed boot down with 800 w&d, had a practice on cardboard with only thinners & set psi to 45.

Mixed thinners & paint 60/40, put it in the gravity feed bowl attached it to gun - off I go.

Three important lessons, 1) There was a loose nut on the spray gun, paint dropped out onto floor everywhere like having a tap on - tighten nut! 2) The trigger has sort of 2 positions, paint ONLY comes out when fully pressed! 3) Mask is a MUST lucky with my choice no smell at all.

Thanks to all for advice, every days a school day.

Overall very pleased with result see what boot lid is like tomorrow when dry 🤷‍♂️ Here’s before & after ......small 👣

Just looked at boot lid still looking good 🤞

Heres some facts & some advice please.

Facts - the concerns Re the compressor tripping the breaker or blowing its fuse haven’t happened, no issues. 👍The 50L tank is enough for 3 coats W/out the need to run the motor.

The cloud of ‘fumes’ in the garage was v bad & transferring/mixing/cleaning afterwards was v messy! There’s gotta b an easy way?

The gun is a 1.5 what is this? How do I get a wider fan of paint?

I used a water trap - no water collected & I used 240ml of thinners with 100ml of paint & I only used half of it.

1.5 is the fluid tip size, different sizes for different types of paint.

1.5 is ok for cellulose top coat.

A bit small for thick primers

Have you tried adjusting the gun to get a wider fan ?
you need air circulation to get rid of the fumes, extractor fan through a tube onto a bucket of water.

Cheap gun which only has 1 adjuster which screws in/out not convinced it made any difference. Must try to rig some sort of extractor tomorrow!

I’ve woken up in a cold sweat but the boot lid looks good, well pleased 😁
I think I’ve had the spray gun nozzle set 90 degrees out hence the fan of paint being horizontal not vertical?
And my mix was 70(thinners) 30(paint) not 60/40 b’cos my maths is pants!

Boot lid topside gets it today 👍

Three top coats on the Boot Lid top.

But first found out what the 2 knobs on the gun did! (YouTube Paint Society) Then practiced on cardboard to get paint quantity right & fan shape correct, mixed accurate 60/40 & prepped Lid with 800W&D - off I went.

Very pleased with result & no hiccups here’s some pics...

I see you're also wearing the correct safety Crocs.😜

I too am never out of my Crocs, must be an age thing🤔

I think this could be the start of a new " show us your safety Crocs" thread.

I guess you know why sprayers don't use/like those curly hoses - a soft pvc / rubber hose allows easier movement. Maybe an upgrade for the future?

Yes upgrade on the cards and better preparation tools, I think Carey said this back in August & JB recently Re preparation 👍, really enjoyed the whole ‘Air’ use & defo want more practice, the finish is much better than rattle cans!......small 👣

F.O.R.D & Escort boot lid badges re-fitted & Daisy’s boot is .....on & I’m proper excited!

My preparation work where I’ve taken the chrome strip off is pants! (Must learn patience) The paint colour is great in fact too lovely compared to the rest of the faded car !

The result ......well pleased, learned loads 👍😁😁.........NEXT!?🤔
