Great thread, really informative and great to see such an open honest account of your progress and learnings

Car is 👌

Much appreciated 👍 my thinking is it’s an ordinary approach to running repairs, enjoying, learning & not taking these toooooo seriously whilst keeping Daisy on the road with help from OSF 😁

Some not so shiny things arrived for Daisy, I bought a Rocker cover as a spare £10, the plan is to angle grind off the remains of the Air Filter bracket & restore it......🤷‍♂️

Take your time grinding off the remains of the bracket, or you will end up breaking through the two spot welds holding it on, and have two holes that will piddle oil everywhere.

Have you got of any flap wheel discs that you can put on your angle grinder rather than the solid grinding discs, they are more forgiving & gentle on the metal.

Proper good advice thanks 👍.....1mm cutting disc then medium abrasive disc then flat stone with WD40 and finally green scotchbright .....Here’s pics of result........now thinking black shiny powdercoat 🤷‍♂️

Daisy’s pinking!

Last month I said I could hear a clicking noise but I’ve had a lightbulb moment & I think she’s PINKING?! 🤷‍♂️ When Daisy’s idling or coasting there’s no clicking / pinking but when I accelerate WOW it’s bad!

Any advice greatly received thank you.

Thank you both - Any knowledge of this?

when I refurbed the fuel tank in May I took it out, should I buy a new one & put it in the tank?

Ive set my timing 10 degrees BTDC can’t remember if vacuum pipe was connected or not & I did have to put in some 95RON a month ago  🤬 cos I had no choice

1 order of 'Snake oil and chips' please. If you haven't done anything radical with the dizzy i'd say maybe vac. hose disconnected / cracked / leaking or the vac. advance pot on the dizzy has failed. If that all checks out, a couple of degrees off the static timing may help as said above . . . . . . . or drive Daisy, like Miss Daisy!

Modern fuels like about 15 degrees static, but you need to restrict the total advance down to what ever your engine build wants, maybe between 32 to 36 degrees total.

That requires a dist strip and restrict the Bob weights.

Not a straight forward job.

So as said , retard slightly , and test.

Once you have checked for air leaks.

Personally I'm converted to the nodiz now, it's great , but expensive, compared to a distributor , but you can , adjust your ign till the cows come home.😬

Complete waste of time, Tin & Lead are NOT Soluble in petrol as is the same with most metals in their solid form, it is Compounds of these metals and other additives like "T.E.L" & Sodium that increase Octane levels and provide  lubrication to the exhaust seats, depending on your mileage and driving style, either unleaded head conversion, use a premium "Super Unleaded" fuel, additive etc-etc, I have just sold a brand new Crossflow head, that I had inserts fitted to the exhaust valves & all new valves.

That was a bit of car quackery, hockus pocus, was supposed to save your engine when using unleaded 🙈

What was wrong just using a bit of Valvemaster with Etha-guard before lobbing some fishing tackle in your tank? 😕

Ummmmm glad I asked was just wondering if there was any benefit. I didn’t kno the ‘fishing tackle’ was in Daisy prior to refurbing the tank but I didn’t get pinking wen it was in their & wen I left Fuel in her sometimes for 9 months without use she would start no problem 👏👏 so perhaps ........

Maybe random but....

Does anyone know the diameter of the actual thermostat in Escort Mk1 crossflow?
Ive ‘found’ a new one but it looks small 🤔

Thank you Daisy
