Project ‘Daisy’ Escort Mk1 1300GT by Huge

You can't take an engine apart without getting either water or oil somewhere were it shouldn't be! You've mopped it up - don't sweat it - it shouldn't be an issue. Just use new gaskets for rebuild as re-using old with copious amounts of gasket sealant usually results in leaks!

Few drops of oil into the chamber & turned her over w/out plugs or inlet manifold connected (waiting for new gaskets). Today marked prop shaft ready for removing (to replace rear gearbox seal) sorted butterflies on the Carb & got new tyre fitted onto new wheel - small 👣

Daisy is re-assembled & she started first time 👏👏👏 it’s the first time I’ve taken off the fuel pump, oil separator, inlet manifold (IM) & second time for the carburettor - she revs 2,000RPM and won’t go below that? but I do have to torque the IM yet - small 👣

That's not rust, it's a mild coating of patina. Rust = fred flinstone style gaping holes :ykt:

On inspection ive found the primary idling jet (55) in the secondary idling jet housing (50) and vice versa - don’t know how this affects things......

Today Carb set up - Fit new Rocker cover gasket - AND oil/filter change (last one 3 weeks ago)

When I removed the Inlet Manifold some coolant ran into the port holes & I had a panic 😱 so I think best to change for peace of mind, been to Wilkos & bought this oil £18

We used to have a guy come in the garage with a mk1 cortina once a year to have it spayed underneath with old engine oil. Didn’t look too tidy underneath but after all the years it was absolutely mint on top.

Just do a bit of research first before you spend days scraping it all off. Do searches for Kent engines that don't leak, then Ford type 2 Gearboxes that don't leak and lastly Ford English axles that dont leak. When you feel confident to have solved those little mysteries then go for it, otherwise Daisy will have oil splashed up her skirt the very next day! LOL

True story, one local MOT guy would knock me back for gearbox leaks so I took it to another and it past right away and I asked was he concerned about the gearbox leak and he replied, "Nah I used to work for Ford its just how it is" 🥰
