HI, I wonder if anyone can advice/help i brought a escort body shell with plates and a log 8-9yrs ago the plates and log book have gone missing,

If any one knows of anyone who sold a Mk1 escort body shell, to some who lives in Wolverhampton at that time. PLEASE get in touch i have the original vin tags

which match the age, body colour cc model etc, you would have my bank details and address and you should no how much i paid, and how much i paid for transportation as well

and certain details about the shell you sold me.

I can fully prove My I.D by bank confirmation. and my UK D L etc

I do remember  some of the registration i just can't exactly remember it in full. i can provide pics of the shell details to the previous owner on confirmation

of my details. as far as i can recall the previous owner lived in Essex.

Once again thank you in advance for anyone who may be able to advise or help.

Also does anyone have an up to-date contact for.{ charliefarncebarnce } he used to run a Mk1 escort owner club based in Essex,  he may just no some one.

Regards

J

So what are you trying to do? If you need the registration numbers? do a HPI check based on the chassis numbers then once you have that it'll be £25.00 to the DVLA for a replacement V5!

I'd say its a long shot trying to find the previous owner who 'might' remember the reg. # or who bought the car - I have no details of who I bought mine from . . . . but that could just me! LOL!

Hi thank you very much for replying, its been a nightmare , the previous owner did a dodgy repair on the original chasis leg top mount drivers side where i thought the chasis number was also stamped i can only see one letter under the repair the rest is very rusty and has completely rotted away.

Would you no of anyone who is a ford escort Mk1 vin plate and tag expert, as I haven't a clue if the 2 vin plates relate do

to a my particular chasis number, if so that means i have  the chases number as its on the 2 metal plates and the numbers match perfectly, this has given me hope.

I did track down the co owner of the garage where the book and plates went missing  yesterday, after years of searching,  he remembers me and the car he says he will get back to me if he can find any photos he may taken of the car  but i will try the hip check FINGERS CROSSED XXXX would you no of the safest place to get a HPI check.

As regards 'safest place' - any car / bike dealer should be able to do it if they sell s/hand stock - I had a bike done just with a chassis number at a friendly bike shop - didn't charge me as it was a favour but I would think most would do it for 'a drink'! It would have been a 'nice gesture' by the original garage to do it - if they lost the V5 & plates in the first place!

Whether the chassis number (which is illegible now) and the tags match up, is a moot point now as nothing can be proven either way without forensic analysis LOL! The car is either legit or its a ringer - harsh but that's the reality. The tag numbers will give you the reg. number (via HPI) that they apply to, which hopefully will be earlier than 1975 else you are in trouble!

I believe for a contribution to the club here - they may be able to decipher your chassis plates ? Worth a shot / ask?

Once again thank you i will post an update as soon as the check is done  its a 1973 model  according to the vin basic decipher but I'm on to the  local dealer in the next 20 mins with the plates.

The previous owner seemed very respectable he told me all about the car and the fact that he also had a Mk1 escort van, he was very knowledgable about Mk1 escorts,

a forensic test would be great a i do have tags and a few bits that came off the car untouched i think the car is still registered on the DVLA as SORN   I will get back to you later

and perhaps ask a sight member for help to decode if needed

Katana is referring to me. I can interpret your chassis and body plates for you and give you details of their meaning (for a small fee as he says) but nothing on them is going to give you a registration number from info I can provide, nor confirm that the shell is definitely the correct one to correspond to the chassis plate. Without the number in the strut top, there's nothing that can confirm that conclusively.

Continuing

Well i went to a local garage the owner said, he could not HPI the car without the full registration because the DVLA use that to match the chasis details, as i just can't

remember it in full, leaves me stuck, he did add that i should go to the bank you might be able to request a statement, so i went and the bank told me

you have to pay to order single statement going back that far, so i paid then the teller said " you do no it gives no address, account number etc

you will just get the amount and the persons name, well I've been with them over 20yrs sad.

I have to wait between 5-10 days if it does show the correct amount and the name i have in my head, well i guess i will try social media as i will have his name

at least, i only gave the back a single year to reach i think i may go back tomorrow a pay again for the year before just incase, save me waiting another 10 days to

find the transaction. any body with a helpful friend at the dvla please let me no LOOL. The owner of the car sales garage did show m his 2.2 lotus talbot sunbeam

very nice he did ask me to return if i made any progress, so thank you once again for your interest and comment kindness.

Reply to Cult of OSF thank you very much for your offer and consideration, i realise that the chasis number on the  2 plates are only2 parts of a 3 part puzzle

as only the previous owner would no the full reg as he is the last registered keeper, I'm hoping that when  my bank statements arrive,  i will have his full name

may be some one on this or another platform may no him, as i said before he also owned an escort van, basically unless someone at the DV is sympathetic, as

they would simply tap in the chasis number, the year, the colour, the cc,  the name of the registered keeper, vwhich is on their data base would pop up, with the REG

the owners name,  which i will have in 10 days only helps to follow the only option i have, at least the DVLA will be able to see the same owner name on my bank statement,

Im then going to write to all the  ford owners clubs asking them to ask any of their members to contact me if they no of the person,

as i stated i do no some of the reg but sadly thats not good enoUgh  the car sales man said call the DVLA but i don't believe they would allow me to guess the last 2-3 digits.

if any progress is made i will up date you. thanks once again

Sorry, but the local garage is talking BS, I know because I've had an HPI done with just a chassis number  - he obviously can't be arsed!

I didn't realise the V5 wasn't in your name - that will likely cause more problems with the DVLA as they don't like issuing new V5's for apparently 'dormant or barn find' cars due to the number of cars getting 'new identities'. If you are applying for a V5 that is not in your name, the DVLA will approach the previous registered keeper to confirm the transfer BUT if like a lot of dealers, he never transferred the title to himself, you are back to square one as the DVLA enquiry will go to the previous owner before him ! ! !

What a nightmare! Lets hope you didn't pay the garage company but the man!

Ray - The OP isn't asking the DVLA for the keeper details - he needs to find them via other routes as would be useful to use on the V765 (?) form to apply for new V5 document. The DVLA may not give them out but they sure as hell keep them.

if you look back, he was living in hopes of finding a sympathetic DVLA employee to give him the details

Thank  you all for the feed back, the local garage man did say it was a lot of hassle and moved on to his Lotus,  what i will do between now and tomorrow is, try a  a large car dealer, HOPEFULLY you are right as they might be able to check the the REG using the chasis number only, I will also go to the P Office to pick up a V765

I wouldn't, expect the to give DVLAout his details but for the DVLA TO DELETE the details of the previous owners who have registered their cars as SORN, WELLi really HOPE NOT

What i was thinking of doing, once i have the name is to write/ asK to see the bank manager as a factor that i paid into some ones account, is there away that they can contact

his bank as every transaction is a 2way contract as I'm sure my bank has the persons details attached to the account i paid into. I will ask my bank to send a letter on my behalf, to the account holder,

IF BIG IF  they agree ,  we all i no its going to cost, then that might help me to make contact with the person to at least go forward with the REG RECOVERY.

What do you if any one has a other ideas please let me no Regards

Hi - I got the form reference wrong - its a V62! see here - https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/application-for-a-vehicle-registration-certificate

Form can be downloaded and printed at home - save a visit to post office! It will cost £25 as said earlier and they are taking a stupid length of time to deal / issue - mine was 4 months!

Ok great and thanks, I'm  going to the local dealer in a bit and the bank again the banks a bit of a trek but i do think my best option is the bank, i would have thought that i would have

a right to no who i gave my money to, surely they should allow me to see my own transactions.
