Wessie
Close .. You should only be allowed an off roader/4x4 if you live on a farm anyone else wants one it should be £10,000 a year road tax i dont live on a farm we use our 4x4 for lugging engines about, we use it for towing to racing etc, so why should i have to pay £10,000 ? MK II Mark
You're very lucky! I know... How much does it cost to tax your average 2.0 litre car in the UK then? Right I'm movin in wit u!!!! It costs me £175 p/a to tax my capri. Any car registered after 2001 is taxed by it's emissions. Eg: A BMW X5 4.0l driver will pay about £200 p/a, whilst a 900cc Corsa driver will pay about £100 p/a thereabouts Ouch! some times being a cast away in the irsh sea is a good thing, now wheres that sheep
Messenjah
25 year old cars should have FREE tax.......and no emissions test horses should pay road tax and 4x4's should be banned apart from land rovers in rural areas Close .. You should only be allowed an off roader/4x4 if you live on a farm anyone else wants one it should be £10,000 a year road tax so my parents should have to pay £10,000 a year road tax for having a 17 year old 2.3 litre turbo diesel landrover defender which we NEED because we are building a house in ireland and its a mile up an off road track which is too rough and too soft for lorries to go down to deliver materials if YOU can find us a car thts cheaper to run and is more envoromentally frienly that will carry 5 (or 7) passengers and 800kg of building stone while towing a trailer full of concrete blocks up and along a Steep off road track then im sure we will go out and buy one tomorrow untill then dont make borad sweeping generalisations !!!! people who CANNOT justify the use of a 4x4 should have to pay more road tax of people who own 4x4s that have no off road ability and therefore serve no real purpose SHOULD be penalised but in a way they already are because these vehicles are "gas guzzlers" so they are using alot more fuel and therefore paying a fuckload more tax already because of the excesssive fuel consumption so get off ure f00king soap box ! Daggle
Its not just 4x4's who are in the higher tax braket, my Focus ST170, will now be £300 next year to tax, and then £400 the year after that??

Mk2Jo
I'm glad I don't have to take it up the ass like you guys, I only pay £5 a year for road tax on my escort cos it's over twenty five years old and £140 for my 1.9 Golf. I live on The Isle of Man (tax haven) so I don't pay poll tax and get taxed on a different scale for my salary, I think eighteen percent is the highest tax bracket. Sorry, I don't mean to gloat But how long does it take you to get to Brands Hatch, Santa Pod and Silverstone

johnny_h
There's no need for so many 4x4's on the road so although I don't wish hardship on anyone, seeing a second hand 4x4 dealership not selling as many motors as it used to will not make it hard for me to sleep. There are certain people that need 4x4's, fat business men, shopping mum's, wannabe gangster's and pikey's not being on the list.

mk2_escort_chick
I'm with u johnnyh- 4x4's should be used by people who need them. Farmers etc! Not mum's with 2 kids that wont let their kids walk 10 mins to school. I hate 4x4's so i am biased. If u have kids, why not get a people carrier? I'm sure that people can still tow things with one of them. We was towing the fez with our peugeot 406!!!

Cookie
Ims sorry but where has the freedom of choice factor gone then, I say if you can afford it and it is legal then why the fook mot buy what you want Saying all 4x4 should only belong to farmers is the same as saying all old cars should belong to old folk, watch we will be next on the hit-list with our non sat nav trackable, over emmisioned death traps (in govt's eyes )and will have to pay £2k a year for the privilige of owning an osf! Gareth
It's all a way to fook every1 over. The Government- The "people's" Labour party are a load of hypocrites They dont give a fook about whats best for the people, All they're interested in is lining their pockets, so Mr. Blair can keep up his childish game of "mine's bigger than yours" with George W. Bush......... Makes my fookin blood boil, they're just legal thieves.

Bollox to em all thats what I say, the land of the free is becoming the land of contriction and being told what to do I agree If you can afford to own a 4X4 why the fook not! I commute 114 miles on the M25 every day which is some serious shite when you have to navigate your way around those fook-off great lorries and dip-stick executive reps in there company BMW’s. So I brought myself a Freelander and not only was it a more comfortable ride but I also felt a hell of a lot safer driving something larger. So should I be penalised for upping my chances of survival in a crash? I also used it to trailer my 53 Anglia back when I brought it, which by the way will be fitted with a 3.5 litre gas guzzling V8 and is tax exempt. However I did sell the Freelander 12 months later cos it was costing me a bloody fortune to run.
Twinkle
at the end of the day whether its a 4x4 or an old ford, new ford or whatever the government are shafting us all. i own a 4x4 and before i got back into oldskool fords i was heavily into the off road scene and land rovers, it was a hobby to me and it is to thousands of others in this country, take a look on the newsagents shelves there are more magazines devoted to land rovers than most other makes and the following is huge from ancient classic stuff up to discoveries etc just look at the yearly shows for land rovers, they are bigger than most car shows! why should someone have a hobby taken away because the government wants to tax them higher? its not about the enviroment as lets face it most modified escorts etc probably run similar mpg as a 4x4 and probably pollute more than a 4x4!! how about rather than slagging motorists off because they dont drive something you appreciate or enjoy we all stick together and concentrate on who is in the wrong, THE GOVERNMENT
