  1. Good morning everyone I hope you are all doing well. Sorry I’ve been the most active on the forum in the past, this is something I would like to change, and I thought opening with some good news for you is a good way to start. I know that in the past, some of you have had issues with cover because you couldn't garage your classic, or simply because the premium rates weren't hitting the mark. I’m really pleased to announce that we have new rates and facilities designed with Old Skool Ford members in mind. If we haven’t been able to help you before, please give us a shout, we would love to see what we can do for you now. And for those who haven’t checked in with us yet don't miss out on your member discount! If you are an existing Abbeyfields customer, don’t worry we will make sure we offer you the best terms when your policy falls due for renewal. The team and I look forward to catching up with you all soon. Best wishes Jayne Call us on 0121 655 3420 or email info@abbeyfieldsinsurance.co.uk

  6. I've been with Abbeyfields for 6 years now. The service is excellent, policy coverage bang on, price brilliant and if you are unfortunate to have a prang they are there with you to help. If you nothing else, give them a call. Over the years I've been with Adrian Flux, Lancaster, Footman James and Carole Nash. They have been good but have lost their way over the years and if something is slightly out of the ordinary don't want to know. I made the change, and included my modern daily car too and its been easy. Thanks Abbeyfields 👍

  7. Thanks for adding me, I’m into my 7th decade and still have the same passion for rear wheel drive escorts I had 55 years ago. Have a healthy mk1 van and I slightly disabled 13 gt that keep me tinkering .

  10. I served my time as a fitter building printing presses at MGD (Goss's) in Preston. At 20 I worked in the Heavy Erection Shop (big presses}, so I was a heavy erection fitter, handy job title if you were on the pull😂🤣

  14. First job was at a Ford subsidiary as a Precision tool maker apprentice. 1 Pound per hour for a 49 hr week. Hated every minute but good group of lads at college. Decided I didnt want to be stuck in a factory for the rest of my working life. Left as soon as I qualified and havent been near a lathe or milling machine since. Still got my old imperial Micromiter though and still know how to read it. No digital verniers in those days. Saved like mad through my three years and bought my first Ford. An RS2000 for £2995.00 only had 30k on it as it was only 3 years old. How times change.

  15. Update on this for all OSF members after speaking to another member who had experience. Only use if desperate. Be aware of "1960FordParts" on Fleebay. Parts prices are high, quality may not match and when things go wrong, the seller takes his ball home! Not a pleasant experience and that's putting it lightly.

  19. 800-odd miles down & we're looking reasonably OK as far as resurrecting the old girl goes. Recording over 30mpg on the onboard display (I would say more like 25-27 but still better than expected). Some small niggles since going back on the road, thermostat failed no biggie, radiator has a couple of *small* leaks when cold (one from a tank joint & another around the g/box cooler line) but no appreciable loss just the odd drip, gearbox would definitely benefit from fresh fluid & filter and we have the blower/AC to fix but other than that she's a comfy interesting old barge. Hoping to get a day at the seaside soon, let's hope my underseal keeps the salt air at bay!

  20. Alternator light came on on my mk1 whilst out on a sunny day's drive yesterday. I put her back in the garage and shut the door on the problem. Can't be bothered either.

  21. Also one of my favourite 90's cars. I owned two of them back in the day. The 2nd one, a G60, I eventually traded in for a Celica GT4, which I didn't like nearly as much and didn't keep for long. My friends called it the Batmobile at the time.

  25. Hit my 7th decade this year, as long as I wake up with a pulse I consider it a bonus, and if I feel down I just start my old Xflow and even a 10 minute drive has me grinning like a happy monkey. Welcome to the Monkey house!😂

  26. Don't think that was his name, online profile doesn't look like him but could well be wrong. RP2000 you're more than welcome to help yourselves to 95% of our rain, I'm sure we'd still get by with only minor flooding from the other 5% & they ban us from using hosepipes through summer anyway so might as well give them a reason for it...

  30. Thanks, will give them a check if I need to buy a replacement. Hoping to be able to save the original motor with some oil & a set of brushes but we'll see. In other news, the Scorp' is officially back on the road after 6 years! 🤩 Had it to a point where I thought just book it in & see what else needed sorting, as I had a feeling it'd fail emissions because of a slight stumble at idle caused by the dizzy cap (Typically it's an unobtanium part, similar to the earlier 2.8 but with different connectors). I've got a 2.8i cap on order and was going to grab some leads to suit ready for the retest when I'd have sorted the other issues too. However, she just squeaked through emissions by skin of her teeth & nothing else to fail on either! Bonus! Think she got a bit too excited at the prospect of being brought back to life though as she promptly refused to restart after the test, traced it down to a blown fuse caused by the starter wiring touching the exhaust manifold so that was a brief scare. Fired her up bridging the solenoid and marked that as another job needs done but other than that well pleased. Will try and get some photos now she's all cleaned up, rear arches still need smoothing out and paint plus the spoiler is missing but other than that & the electrical she's pretty much ready for springtime cruising. Perfect timing too, what with fuel prices being such a bargain currently and nobody panic buying making everywhere run out... Ohhh, hang on... 🤦‍♂️
