mk2_escort_chick Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 What I mean is- what yr do you class as being too old for a car to be classed as an 'old skool ford'? It's a convo me and dean were having and I thought I'd best ask you guys (and gals) what you think.... x
Burns Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 tis generally considered (on here) that it's any car that started production before 1980 and don't feel like it was designed by a computer...
Admin Vista Posted October 17, 2006 Admin Report Posted October 17, 2006 I've followed a number of these posts about what is and isn't an OSF. It strikes me that the definition designed before 1980 would have to include the Sierra (I speak as impartial observer as I have no beef as to whether the sierra is or isn't an OSF). As the first Sierras hit the road in about 1982, they must have been designed pre 1980 as I can't see them making it through design and prototype and onto the production line inside 2 years. They are RWD and many use OS engines (Pinto yaay!), so by at least half of the generally accepted OSF definition the Sierra must qualify, ok the computer bit certainly lets it down though. Personally I'd love a 3 door Cosworth Sierra and IMHO they are the 80's versions of the much loved mk1 & 2 RS's of the 70's. But as I said I've no real beef about whether they are or aren't classed as an OSF, it's just interesting that by at least part of the definition of an OSF they, in theory, should qualify.
Burns Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 comes back to the age old 'steel vs plastic' debait don't it
RFChris Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 Chrome Bumpers and rear wheel drive...... Nuff said!
mk2_escort_chick Posted October 17, 2006 Author Report Posted October 17, 2006 hehehe! I had a feeling it was generally "pre 1980". Chrome bumpers and rear wheel drive- oh yeah baby!!!! Thank you for replying
Stu_B Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 I can never be bothered to reply to these 'are sierra's old skool' debates as they're usually pages deep, so I thought I'd get in early on this one! Sierra's are not 'old skool' but they are still RWD and a a lot cooler an alternative than 95% of the cars on the road!! yep they ugly, yep they big and heavy, but fook me do they go sideways!!
Mexico Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 i wouldnt say sierras are exactly OSF although that don't say they are useless. Excelent donor vehicles engine wise although the rs500 r cool as fook. Wat about the series 1 + 2 rs turbo's guys? i would say they are gettin close to becomin classics now. And if we consider those as classics wnt we have to consider mk3 escorts??? 'front wheel drive' i hear u say??? also i no i am bafflin on but the rs1600i is definelt OS in my opinion lol

Rare as hell now, and both are real collectors items. Not feeling the same about the S2RST though. Bit of a chav car that was trying to hard to be its predecessor imo. Chris
Mexico Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 i see where ya cumin from on that one. the series 1 is cool tho lol
RWDmk2 Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 Sierras and mk3/ 4 escorts will probabley start 2 become classics pretty soon but in the eyes of this site and what it stands for, they'll never be Old Skool, old skool doesnt change with time, its a set era, pre 80's, none of the plastic crap, no offence 2 all the people who like sierras, i know there seems 2 be a lot of you on here these days, i guess people will start calling them old school but thankfully they'll never be an Old Skool Ford, woo hoo
Stu_B Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 hehehe! I had a feeling it was generally "pre 1980". Chrome bumpers and rear wheel drive- oh yeah baby!!!! Thank you for replying ...but Capri's don't have Chrome & surely they're old skool?
fezza Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 Chrome Bumpers and rear wheel drive...... Nuff said! RWD i guess our following of mk1 fiesta drivers will have to find a new home then
Doc Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 it says it all on the front page and logo Capris Mk1 and mk2 escorts Prefects , 100e 105e Cortina MK1 ,2 ,3 Old skool to the bone ......... Oh and the odd sneaky Granada ..... Thats it end of debate. Bosses rules.
antz Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 mk4 and 5 cortina as wel. and the mk1 and 2 grannies
LUKE261 Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 rite the newest car would be a mk3 capri, as these were made well into the mid 80's so yes it is possible 2 own an old skool capri the same year the s1 rs turbo was made, the rs turbo is a cult classic but not an old skool ford the mk3 capri first came out in production in 70's so therefore classed as old skool, the mk1 fiesta came into production in 1977 so its old skool, the mark 2 fiesta didnt come into production until the 80's, any car pre this era is old skool, doc, what about zephyrs, zodiacs, consuls, classics, corsairs
Josh_gsy Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 i think OS is partly the age kinda classed by over 25, but design methods and looks comes into it too. as said before the early sierra is a osf in my eyes for sure! but does this mean it was behind its time when released?
Fiesta Steve Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 Chrome Bumpers and rear wheel drive...... I think RS1600i and S1RST's are OS. it says it all on the front page and logo Capris Mk1 and mk2 escorts Prefects , 100e 105e Cortina MK1 ,2 ,3 Old skool to the bone ......... Oh and the odd sneaky Granada ..... Thats it end of debate. Bosses rules.
orionmojo Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 what about coupe's and pops? its all down to opinion surely!
bortaf Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 it says it all on the front page and logo Capris Mk1 and mk2 escorts Prefects , 100e 105e Cortina MK1 ,2 ,3 Old skool to the bone ......... Oh and the odd sneaky Granada ..... Thats it end of debate. Bosses rules. so all capris, even a 1987 2.8 but no 1977 Mk4 cortinas that makes sense Personly i recon old schools stops at Mk4 cortina/ Mk2 capri, once they get plastic end caps thats it so any Mk1 fezzas fit in nicley Not that i give a rats bottom, i drive what i drive cos i wanna drive what i drive beleive it or not that made sense in me head must have lost something in the translation to keyboard
fezza Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 what about coupe's and pops? its all down to opinion surely! Thats exactly the thing mate and thats half the problem, everybody has their own opinion, thats why these types of topics always end up a little bit sour
mk2_escort_chick Posted October 17, 2006 Author Report Posted October 17, 2006 I'm really sorry to have caused a mini debate. Like I said in my original post- it was just something me and dean started talking about.
Admin Vista Posted October 17, 2006 Admin Report Posted October 17, 2006 I'm really sorry to have caused a mini debate. Debate is good, it's what keeps us all posting and besides I think I had as much to do with starting it off as you did.
faster Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 I love these Debates. Mk3 Escorts will never, ever be old skool. Sorry to offend, but they just wont. They are nasty nasty cars. Neither will Sierras. They may reach classic status, but they wont ever be old skool!!!!!!!!!! Old skool cars ie MK1 & 2 Escorts, Capri's, Cortinas etc, have a certain feel which makes them different to the later fords. Maybe its the lack of cheap nasty plastics, maybe its the owners, maybe its the styling. Who knows?! but in my opinion, Old skool stops with Live axle cars. Sorry
fezza Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 I'm really sorry to have caused a mini debate. Like I said in my original post- it was just something me and dean started talking about. Nothing wrong with the question really its just everyone has different opinions and these topics usually end up a little heated sometimes its funny
