Guest MK1gaz Posted April 25, 2008 Report Posted April 25, 2008 Think of the pinto you could of built for the money. in the 11s all day. Fools and their money are easily parted hey gaz Not on cheapo 175/50/13 street tyres and with no bits missing it won't . Plus it won't drive as nice and will need a trailer to move about on
BIG G Posted April 25, 2008 Report Posted April 25, 2008 Yeah but it would be proper old skool and not a modern plastic wannabe
Guest MK1gaz Posted April 25, 2008 Report Posted April 25, 2008 So really the 12k on a Duratec is 12k - 4.5k for the box .. = 7,500 So 7,500 plus say 2k for the ecu/dry sump .. and 600 for the manifold = £10,100 for around 300bhp .. all new and shiney ..aint bad is it .. and in 10 years time how much will that be secondhand ???? Where can i buy a new rebuilt full monty 300bhp (on pump fuel) 10,500 rpm , 300 bhp duratec for £7,500 then ? Where can you buy complete throttle bodies , ecu , wiring , sensors , injectors , pipework + hoses , fuel pumps , filters , brackets , relays and dyno mapping time for £2000 then ? A full dry sump set up with ALL THE BITS that's fitted and working is £1500 , £3000 for all the injection stuff + mapping time etc and that's without an engine or all the other mega bucks bits a 300bhp engine needs
Guest MK1gaz Posted April 25, 2008 Report Posted April 25, 2008 Yeah but it would be proper old skool and not a modern plastic wannabe lol , but 16v pintos have been around since the 1970's . The YB version wasn't but it's cheap , you can buy a head for peanuts on ebay and stick it onto a 205 pinto block
BIG G Posted April 25, 2008 Report Posted April 25, 2008 Yeah but it would be proper old skool and not a modern plastic wannabe lol , but 16v pintos have been around since the 1970's . The YB version wasn't but it's cheap , you can buy a head for peanuts on ebay and stick it onto a 205 pinto block why would you want to stick one of those gasket popping vavle dropping porus piles of kack on a decent pinto for specially when it wont do 11s quarters
Guest MK1gaz Posted April 25, 2008 Report Posted April 25, 2008 .. as for where they are .. probably sprinting /hillclimbing/rallying ... everything bar the yawn of the 1/4 why is testing your cars acceleration on a 1/4 mile boring then ? At least it's an honest test where good engines go fast and hyped up shite ones don't . You can't hide on a race track forever can you ? You would think that your mate would put one of these dogs bollox Madza duratec engines in an Escort for once insead of some featherweight caterham shite . Then he could turn up at the drag strip and show us all what it goes like !!!!!!!!! . Who knows , he may even sell a few once he's proven they can move fast
PIG Posted April 25, 2008 Report Posted April 25, 2008 dura choc, there are only 2 out there that will be worth shit on track imo.g,call me late morning early afternoon m8
BIG G Posted April 25, 2008 Report Posted April 25, 2008 Rock and roll pig miesta might sober up by then
Guest MK1gaz Posted April 25, 2008 Report Posted April 25, 2008 Right , i'm stick of all this "duratec is best" bollox . I'm going to DRIVE up the Pod in comfort whilst running on pump fuel . Drive up to the startline and run a 12 sec 1/4 mile this summer straight off the street on cheapo 175's and with ALL the cars proper heavy bits still bolted to it . As i only have a 215 bhp old fashioned Atmo Cossie all these super dooper duratec hairdryers SHOULD be able to beat mine then !!!!!!!!!
BIG G Posted April 25, 2008 Report Posted April 25, 2008 Should of kept the pinto gaz you know it makes sense and what all this comfort sh1te you keep bleeting on about i think u are a frustrated granada owner
oliwally Posted April 25, 2008 Report Posted April 25, 2008 Should of kept the pinto gaz you know it makes sense and what all this comfort sh1te you keep bleeting on about i think u are a frustrated granada owner No he should have fitted an engine like mine, the true BDA replacement A nice cheap zetec mines got basic old webers and a pair of cams and that make 180bhp easy
Guest MK1gaz Posted April 25, 2008 Report Posted April 25, 2008 and what all this comfort sh1te you keep bleeting on about i think u are a frustrated granada owner I want to see how fast a NORMAL , comfy , street driven , street legal mk1 escort can go on normal cheap skinney tyres without resorting to turbos or nitrous . If i can run in the 12sec 1/4 mile bracket like that with only 215bhp then it's job done . I reckon i can do it no sweat as on sunday the track was damp , i had a mis-fire and my 60 foots were really slow . Still as fast as a new £50,000 400+ bhp V8 M3 though !!!!!!!!
Posse Posted April 25, 2008 Report Posted April 25, 2008 Gaz what sort of reaction times were you doing?
Guest MK1gaz Posted April 25, 2008 Report Posted April 25, 2008 Gaz what sort of reaction times were you doing?Foook knows mate as i wasn't trying , i was too busy trying to pull away on a slippery track with a paddle clutch at 3000 revs
Posse Posted April 25, 2008 Report Posted April 25, 2008 fook me did you have a heavy night before lol
Guest MK1gaz Posted April 25, 2008 Report Posted April 25, 2008 fook me did you have a heavy night before lolNo mate , i'm old !!!!!!!!!!
oliwally Posted April 25, 2008 Report Posted April 25, 2008 fook me did you have a heavy night before lol No he was just adjusting his heater and radio in his comfy road going car. Was listening to wogan on the radio when the lights changed
Guest MK1gaz Posted April 25, 2008 Report Posted April 25, 2008 roll on the pod Roll on the duratecs showing us how it's done . I dare say they won't though , all the circuit race cars that have all the power can't go any faster in a straight line for some reason !!!!!!!!!
Posse Posted April 25, 2008 Report Posted April 25, 2008 fook me did you have a heavy night before lol No he was just adjusting his heater and radio in his comfy road going car. Was listening to wogan on the radio when the lights changed
Mk 1 Mark Posted April 26, 2008 Report Posted April 26, 2008 Just got of the phone to Llloyd who said he will picking his engine up from his engine builder next weekend, having been there today. His is a 2.3 Duratec and his engine is the best part of £8500 but he will know the final price next week and what else he needs. But he said all he needs is his ex manifold and a triple plate clutch. starter and alternator. He has his engine mounts, and if all goes well he will be starting to get his engine in next weekend
Guest MK1gaz Posted April 26, 2008 Report Posted April 26, 2008 My mates H.P.E. Atmo cossie made 225bhp at sanspeed yesterday . So that has a £120 rs2000 sump , £150 steel lightweight pinto sized Yb 9 bolt flywheel , £45 rs2000 engine mounts , £120 rs2000 alloy bell housing and then it and the gearbox bolts straight into an escort X-member in 5 mins . This engines uses the STANDARD steel crank and rods which you can buy on ebay for the same price as a duratec water rail kit !!!!!!!!!! . You WILL need at least a 250 bhp Mazda dura-choc engine to overtake/keep up with it and that will cost you more than double what his cost !!!!!!!!! How many people have you seen with standardish duratecs in escorts then ? The answer is NONE and that's because they cost a fortune to fit and get running . All the cars with them at present have got the mega-bucks full monty 250+bhp conversions , this is because unless you've got the money this duratec motor is just another overated piece of poop
