Nicks53 Posted September 1, 2010 Report Posted September 1, 2010 Hello all, basically just wondering if anyone knew the car in the link below? I need another OSF, not even necessarily to mod, just a good runner and this one seems a good bet. Obviously I wanna get across and have a good look at the car before even thinking of putting money down but thought I'd ask if anyone here knew of it? http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C165040 Also, I was going to say that almost 5k is a bit on the expensive side for me, good runner or not and wondered if 4 - 4.5k was a reasonable offer?
SmokeEm Posted September 1, 2010 Report Posted September 1, 2010 I don't know the car but it would have to be near concours for me to pay 5k for a mk2 Tina
Nicks53 Posted September 1, 2010 Author Report Posted September 1, 2010 If you have a look though, he reckons it's newly been fitted with a stainless steel exhaust, it has the unleaded head fitted and all in all it looks pretty tidy. What'd you recommend?
Mrs O/H/C Posted September 1, 2010 Report Posted September 1, 2010 It does look like a really nice car..but imo a little pricey
GT_lenny Posted September 1, 2010 Report Posted September 1, 2010 looks a nice motor but cant see why its a whole £1000 more than this though http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CORTINA-MK2-GT-19 ... mobiles_UK and this could go at a favourable price, with a bit of elbow grease would be mint and would be a bit different http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FORD-CORTINA-1600 ... mobiles_UK
Nicks53 Posted September 1, 2010 Author Report Posted September 1, 2010 True enough about that black one, seems a good deal. Distance factors into things for me as well though, working shifts 6 days or nights a week doesn't leave much time for cross country jaunts.
caprinerd Posted September 1, 2010 Report Posted September 1, 2010 if you look at the pic you can see the cars just been washed and a wet car will hide faded paint and will always put a shine on it
Nicks53 Posted September 2, 2010 Author Report Posted September 2, 2010 Fair play, will have to have a look around. I don't understand why sometimes people pay almost 2k for a shell that needs a lot of work but this is seen as too expensive (I can't afford it at 5k anyway) I just don't know why? Anyone explain that one?

Anyone explain that one? Escort Tax, I don't see anyone paying £2k for a rotten cortina shell unless it's something particularly rare like a lotus.
JAY PS Posted September 2, 2010 Report Posted September 2, 2010 Ive had two offers of £2250 on my 4dr GT Mk1 Cortina and it hasnt been on the road since 90 ! And its needing lots of new metal I think the Mk2 GT/1600 E in rust free condition would be around 4-5k and one like that needing cosmetics a little bit less ,saying that its clean and original so may be its worth it to someone .Just not me !
Nicks53 Posted September 3, 2010 Author Report Posted September 3, 2010 I suppose at the end of the day, something's worth what you're willing to pay for it; what's the rule of thumb with MK2s though, is there a general price range?
JAY PS Posted September 3, 2010 Report Posted September 3, 2010 Dont think there is one with cars at this age ,rarity value etc ,is what makes the cars worth the money -its really down to what people want to pay I saw a Lotus Cortina mk1 with a guide price of 18k goe for over 30k at auction and no one could understand why (supply and demand ) in the same way a Mk1 Granada Ghia with only 30k made £8k last year (guide was £5k)
