Mrs O/H/C Posted November 12, 2010 Report Posted November 12, 2010 Just saw this on The Wright Stuff...........if only i could be so lucky
FredTransit Posted November 12, 2010 Report Posted November 12, 2010 Wonder if they went outside after to their three wheeled van and rocked it shouting and whooping??
James HPE Motorsport Posted November 13, 2010 Report Posted November 13, 2010 Just imagine the hammer going down and the vibration made the vase fall and smash into a million pieces Lol, I guess jealousy will get you nowhere!!!
Grizzley Dell Posted November 13, 2010 Report Posted November 13, 2010 the auctioneer broke his hammer as it sold, saw bits flying off.
escortmad79 Posted November 14, 2010 Report Posted November 14, 2010 the auctioneer broke his hammer as it sold, saw bits flying off. Not surprised! The auctioneer was used to selling crap like cookers! With one lot he instantly became a multi millionaire through commision alone! Nice work if you can get it!
capri71 Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 The buyer must be MEGA rich ...and morally bankrupt
Admin Vista Posted November 15, 2010 Author Admin Report Posted November 15, 2010 The buyer must be MEGA rich ...and morally bankrupt Mega rich certainly but morally bankrupt is pretty strong. How so? Isn't it up to the individual how they spend their earnings? Many people that command that kind of spending power actually spend a large chunk of their fortunes either on wage bills for employees in their direct service, or on projects that keep hundreds (if not thousands) employed for years. It may seem wrong to those of us less fortunate, but since when did wealth become a crime?
capri71 Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 The buyer must be MEGA rich ...and morally bankrupt It may seem wrong to those of us less fortunate, but since when did wealth become a crime? I don't concider myself one of the less fortunate, in any meaningful way. I just think that £51million would have been better spent helping the worlds poorest get clean water, basic food and medical care than on a practically pointless selfish indulgence ...you obviously don't see it that way but don't worry, as you say, its not a crime - its just a moral and social injustice but that doesn't worry you does it? ...for the record, in my humble opinion, it fecking well should be a crime to WASTE that kind of money on a useless object when others starve. Whats really scary and strange about your comments is that obviously, some people who along with 80% of the poulation, share 20% of the worlds wealth jump to defend the selfish acts of the 20% who enjoy remaining 80%. You might think your doing alright Vista, but trust me, your not in the rich club - your here in the poor club... you might be edging ahead of some and aspspire to join that 20% but I think you have a seriously misplaced sence of loyalty. As for employing thousands of people - I don't doubt it, but concidering the buyer is chinese and the chinese have the worst working conditions and fewest rights in the industrial world, don't pretend that he/she is doing it all for them either - its more a case of enslaving and taking advantage of people than providing them with livelyhood - if it were more profitable to make each and every person they might employ redundant, they would do it in a heatbeat and be as happy as Larry about the saving. You can't defend acts of extreme greed and selfishness with arguments like "it not a crime" - not to me anyway, whatever you post next.
Admin Vista Posted November 16, 2010 Author Admin Report Posted November 16, 2010 No, I'm not in the rich club but I work in an industry that depends on them for a living. Many thousands the world over put bread and water on their tables every night because of them. I also get a good insight into the workings of some of the super rich and most that I've met aren't anything like the tainted view you have of them. Perhaps communism would be better for you? It didn't work out too well for the Soviets, North Koreans, Cubans or Chinese though did it? As to defending my opinion, mine is based on fact and personal experience of the kind of wealth we're discussing, yours isn't. So I don't intend to defend it and neither do I need to as it is neither greedy nor selfish to spend money you have earned on something that you want. Many of the worlds super rich in fact donate very large sums to charity.........whose to say the buyer of this vase is any different? As to our own personal incomes, aside from it being irrelevant, the money money many of us spend on hobbies at our own level of finance would feed and clothe families in Africa / Asia for a year........so with your generous outlook on charity I assume you'll be stepping forward to volunteer all your spare funds to their cause? No? Thought not.

No? Thought not. FAIL I used to work, share bottles of wine and share console games with a chap who was worth £80 million - a Hong Kong fund manager to the wealthy chinese as it goes so don't say you know rich people and I don't - thats just one of many incorrect assumptions you make in your defensive and reactionary reply - I like how you ask me a question at the end and then answer it for me I really can't be bothered to address the rest of your nonsense - my pizza has arrived edit - I bet youve got a face on just like your avatar, haven't you? ...admit it
Admin Vista Posted November 16, 2010 Author Admin Report Posted November 16, 2010 You took the words right out of my mouth.
capri71 Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 Oh come on! lets not be bitter eh? I was joking about your avatar because you seemed to be getting uptight! It wasn't meant to push your buttons - it was intended to LIGHTEN the rather serious tone we had both adopted. ...at the end of the day chap, you didn't have to pick on me in the first place did you? At the outset, I simply expressed a view, about at a megarich chinaman with a vase who as far as I know is not an OSF member, is not a personal friend of yours and won't be losing any sleep over ieither of our opinions of his lastest aquisition. Ive no hard feelings about you implying that I'm wrong so I hope you won't about me defending my postion

Ive no hard feelings about you implying that I'm wrong so I hope you won't about me defending my postion Fair enough and not bitter (despite implied screwed up face look) neither was I picking on you. Just stating my take on the suggestion that it is immoral to spend large quantities on what can only be described (I suppose) as art. (Remind me to donate my collection of Picasso's and Van Gogh's to charity ) I will though confess to being a little confused by the difference between the left wing views you express in this thread and the extreme right wing views you expressed by PM concerning the other thread we discussed. And I still think any man has a right to spend his earnings on anything he (or indeed she) chooses. P.S. 80 million is certainly rich but it is a long long way short of super rich. Super Rich peoples fortunes are counted in the billions.
capri71 Posted November 18, 2010 Report Posted November 18, 2010 : oh yeah im poor as arsholes & havant got any rich mates,,,,,,,,,,, bless ya Vista I think forums are great but some discussions are better held in person, with the benefits of friendly manner, a drink and a laugh
Nicks53 Posted November 20, 2010 Report Posted November 20, 2010 All I have to say is they saw that rich bugger coming and definitely took him for a ride. £50 mil? I've seen better looking things in the toilet bowl.
James HPE Motorsport Posted November 23, 2010 Report Posted November 23, 2010 Just for the record, if I was stinking rich, I wouldnt think twice about spending my money on whatever I wanted! There will always be people less fortunate but also money isn't anything!!!
