JP. Posted January 22, 2012 Report Posted January 22, 2012 Does someone have "in real" experiance with these cheap eBay most likelee Chinese turbo's?? I mean first hand and not just heard or read somewhere. Building a carburated 2.6 V6 out of a 2.3 V6 and want to turbo charge it. Starting with 7psi of boost. Come in at about 4000 rpm. At these days even brand marks are made in Japan, Maleise, China, Taiwan, Poland & whatever cheap country so what does it mean to those no name branded turbo's. My guess as long as I don't run it over the top what could go wrong. I did some Google on it but I could not find much proof of it being a lost of money. Things Ill found where years old topics on several forums but even these where not first hand experiances. . Looking at a watercooled 360' T35 now. inlet A/R.70 66.6 turbine & exhaust A/R.63 61mm turbine right now.
brettp Posted January 22, 2012 Report Posted January 22, 2012 been looking at these kits myself i spoke to a bloke at customville who had sold a few kits and had nt had any bad feed back that was a while ago dont know if they still sell them
rallyesport04 Posted January 22, 2012 Report Posted January 22, 2012 a friend was buying these an selling these as a garret alternative for cossies out of about 15 kits he sold he only had a problem with one turbo i myself chose an have a garret hard as nails personal preferance
turnover Posted January 22, 2012 Report Posted January 22, 2012 my tuner has tryed about 5 and now will not use them, some have shit there selves on the dyno so no real miles on them,if you were to run 7psi it may last you 6mths but no garantee, any part that is a copy and spins at 100,000 rpm is not going to be any good compared to one developed by the leading brands,in this case cheap is not better oh and if the turbo does fall apart and goes in the engine you will regret the day you bought one
jamie956 Posted January 24, 2012 Report Posted January 24, 2012 You should be able to pick up a decent used t3 for the same money, i would go for that plenty of parts avalable to help with manifolds, pipe work etc.
JP. Posted January 25, 2012 Author Report Posted January 25, 2012 Ended up buying one of these : Ebay Item 260937366608 Think its a GT3582 clone. Probably a tad to big but had it for a nice price. . Base of my build is a May Turbo kit which came without a turbo. Manifold has a T3 flange while the down pipe has a T4 four bold flange. Will use the May Turbo wastegate which is a fesh air vent wastegate like a BOV. Its sits on the carb hat and should go open at about 6psi and it also works as a BOV under vacuum conditions. . Looking at compressor maps a T3 will be to small. A T3 super 60 just, just, just might do it. Start experimenting with the thing I bought.
285Andy Posted January 26, 2012 Report Posted January 26, 2012 i bought one of them cheapo chinese turbo's (T3-4 or sumint) just for mock up as i needed to make a exhaust manifold and exhaust and as it had a v band exhaust housing it suited well. when i finished the car i thought sod it, i'll use it for a bit till i get a garrett t3. it boosted fine and ran 8 psi no problems but alllll the time i was just waiting for it to shatter lol! it didnt blow though in the few hundred miles it was on there! but now ive fitted a Garrett i must say that now turbo failure is far away on my list of things to worry about
wilky Posted February 5, 2012 Report Posted February 5, 2012 i have rebuilt a few, a mate running a t3/4 on his yb and made 430 bhp on it had to strip it and put a 360 bearing in there ,been on there for 2 years now still going .i have striped some and seen parts missing inside so can be a gamble
Mr Sam Posted February 6, 2012 Report Posted February 6, 2012 if your only going to run 7psi ..... why the need for such a big turbo go for something smaller and genuine my volvo runs 7psi as standard on a T25 sorry just seen the 'starting with'
