wakesupremo Posted February 13, 2012 Report Posted February 13, 2012 I have been told that a sierra 1800 sump will fit straight on to my 1800 escort zetec motor. Unfortunately it doesn't as none of the bolt holes line up. Have I been missinformed or do I have the wrong sump please?
Savvi Posted February 13, 2012 Report Posted February 13, 2012 You need a 1800 cvh sump and although the bolts holes line up you will still need to cut it about to clear the crank throw etc.
wakesupremo Posted February 13, 2012 Author Report Posted February 13, 2012 Well thats what I was told from where the engine and sump etc came from. It was bought as a bolt together 'kit' if you like but it just doesn't do what was said. None of the bolt holes line up.
shaun1.6ghia Posted February 15, 2012 Report Posted February 15, 2012 a 1800 cvh sump will fit with alterations, the front needs to be hammered forward to clear the alloy that the oil pickup bolts to (but be careful not to ruin the arch or split the metal) and the oil pick up needs to be bent upwards as it fits lower on the zetec and presses against the sump. to fit over a escort xmember you will also have to cut the front of the bowl out and notch it back, oh an put a dipstick hole in too lots of little annoying bits to do but it will fit with time.
mr zefect Posted February 15, 2012 Report Posted February 15, 2012 If you have silver top you only have to bash one side but if its a black top you have to do both sides to miss the oil pump as i found out when changing from silver to black and i also had to mod the oil pick up and change one of the b/t crank cap bolts for a s/t one so you can bolt the pick up to it as the b/t hasent got the extra stud for it.
wakesupremo Posted February 17, 2012 Author Report Posted February 17, 2012 Thanks 'Zefect' have you any more pics of the engine bay in your superb looking motor. I want to see how people have got over the little problem of resiting the master cylinder. As I am using the injection intake there's not a lot of room.
shaun1.6ghia Posted February 17, 2012 Report Posted February 17, 2012 i had that problem as my 40's on the side of my zetec with cvh sump hit it......... I moved it
jethronoose Posted March 11, 2013 Report Posted March 11, 2013 Dont suppose there are any pictures of what to do on this bash, cut bend sort of work is there? I have sourced a CVH 1800 sump and pick up pipe and would like some help on how this achieved? Liam
Savvi Posted March 11, 2013 Report Posted March 11, 2013 Every where i've read up on this all say they have oil leaks and problems using a cvh sump ? I sourced a Mk5 escort 1600 sump which had been moddified to suit, some guy on Ts is currently offering a deal of modding your supplied sump for around £125. Standard early escort or fiesta 1800 inlet manifolds fit better then others if wanting injection, Gringo ran his Mk1 estate on bike carbs which made about 155 bhp and did a 15.1 at the Pod last year, easier to fit as well
jethronoose Posted March 12, 2013 Report Posted March 12, 2013 Savvi, Im running bike carbs and was going to get Bogg Bros inlet manifold and Chester sportscars ignition system. For what i have paid and to have someone mod it at £125 i may as well just buy the RF one? Cheers
Savvi Posted March 12, 2013 Report Posted March 12, 2013 Well if your going for it on the other bits i'd get the retro ford then. If you read up no one seems to get on very well with the CVH setup, alot of people have gone through loads of gaskets and sealant but still have leaks, i've been saving bits for 3 years to do this conversion now, but dont have the cash to go for all the expensive bits, and able to do most stuff myself, so im opting for a cheaper solution. My sump came on a M plate 1600 Zetec escort i bought for £60 i also have the rest of the car, it has the early alloy inlet manifold which fits easily and i have all the wiring etc. I sold front bumper and various other stuff for more then the £60, so £125 to have the sump converted is cheap to me, you can still get the sumps off ebay for around £50 on their own, I know not everyone wants to mess around like that but it suits me as i have a workshop etc. Im going to try a weber carb or bike carbs before i do the injection as i keep getting told they are a better all rounder, currently looking at these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-Zetec-E- ... 35c5546986 This is a finished sump he has done:
jethronoose Posted March 12, 2013 Report Posted March 12, 2013 Wow, That is some neat work on there! Are you thnking of selling that one like? Does it also have the dip stick hole? Bogg Bros also do the inlet manifold and if you have the carbs to fit they refurb and set them up to the ignition system and have it set to your desired range?
Savvi Posted March 12, 2013 Report Posted March 12, 2013 I just copied the pic from a post on ts where the guy is offering to modify your own sump. That one I believe is for someone else who is also a member on here. I have one exactly the same for my own conversion, which was done about 3 years ago in a group buy and cost me more than the £125 which this guy says he will do them for now. A sign of the times I guess.
w p e Posted March 13, 2013 Report Posted March 13, 2013 just a note to saya friend of mine IKE at ike engineering do a inlet manifold for this engine to run a twin choke webber
Savvi Posted March 14, 2013 Report Posted March 14, 2013 Is that the one for around £200 ? Saw a nice looking manifold for a weber the other day, problem is by the time I get a rebuilt carb cost could be similar then a bike carb setup ?
w p e Posted March 14, 2013 Report Posted March 14, 2013 noy sure on price call ike to see 07711 051391
russ105e Posted March 14, 2013 Report Posted March 14, 2013 I read with Ike's inlet manifold and ignition set up the 2.o Hot Rod engines are making nearly 170bhp
Savvi Posted March 14, 2013 Report Posted March 14, 2013 Looked it up and it is the ones i'd read up on elsewhere, seems they are excellent value for money and everyone says they work really well for £215 + post. http://www.ikengineering.co.uk/manifold ... enums.html
Escort Mk1 4 Door Posted March 15, 2013 Report Posted March 15, 2013 we got about 1 maybe 2 or 3 escort zetec sumps laying about even a st170 one, got loads of zetec cvh and zvh conversion parts in the shed and garages lol
