james p Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 i used to get loadsa sh#t becos im 6.4ft and used to ride a bmx but mine was set up perfct for my size neva broke and dint give me half the probs my mtb does
Guest M.Bird DOHC Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 yeah right??!!! But for the amount of time i see BMX'ers doing tricks and stuff id rather have a MTB all day long for what their using um for! Seems most just ride BMX's cos they think it looks retro and oldskool, but you see peeps pedalling like nutters on the pavement trying to get where they need to be!
james p Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 my mtb is now like a big bmx so dont gain much there
caprifan Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 No m8, i just think grown men on BMX's look a bit odd! Like their riding a kids bike! ...but surely for you mate a BMX is like a full size bike
Guest M.Bird DOHC Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 not quite m8 a kids MTB is just right for me!
stestu001 Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 BMX's are sized by the top tube theres plenty of people over 6 foot that ride them they are small so you can chuck em around. Is good to see other riders on here too didnt know anyone one else on here was into bmx. You saying it looks like a kids bike is like someone calling your old ford a banger an saying why do you get a new car! This is me on my "kids bike"
Guest M.Bird DOHC Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 This is me in my old banger! I know what id rather spend my time and money on! And i do know what a bmx was designed for! And i as i said b4 you normally see somebody who looks too big pedalling like mad on the pavement!
stestu001 Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 Is a nice car that, I wasnt calling it a banger incase people think i was It just bothers me when people call bmx's kids bikes and that was the best example I could use to get my point across.
Guest M.Bird DOHC Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 Each to their own M8, my opionions mine, everyones has their right to free speech!
mr squidian Posted February 7, 2007 Author Report Posted February 7, 2007 oh jeez ... its happening again
Noodles Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 I used to have a rally burner with mag wheels
Durham Fiesta Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 BMX's are sized by the top tube theres plenty of people over 6 foot that ride them they are small so you can chuck em around. You saying it looks like a kids bike is like someone calling your old ford a banger an saying why do you get a new car! This is me on my "kids bike" nice pic, only made it to sheffield once after a trip to derby storm skatepark so was pretty tired. Nice park if you can dodge the frootbooters and plank pushers. I'm 6'3 and found bmx ok as had a 21.5 top tube. Gradually found less and less time to go riding, so ended up selling the bmx but them bought a mtb as quite into xc. Looking at gettin a identiti dr jekyll for a bit dirt/ street riding again
Mr Sam Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 well i had a £100 'Concept - Go Easy' (im sure you've all herd of them some grips some metal pedals and some pegs went through 2 sets of bars and gave up when i snapped the crank in half, really want one again it used to be my sole mode of transport, id quite happily cycle the 5 miles to school then back again, once did 40 miles in one day on a BMX also had a pretty good mountain bike i loved them both for different reasons but by far my favourite bike was my uni-cycle
Durham Fiesta Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 my first bmx was a specialized thing, people said it would be shit but took plenty abuse, never snapped but bent the left hand chainstay after a many missed grinds. Used to cover plenty miles when we used to go street riding, kept you fit but bmx slowly breaks your knees
orionmojo Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 it used to be my sole mode of transport, id quite happily cycle the 5 miles to school then back again, once did 40 miles in one day on a BMX same here! i used to ride 8 miles to my friends, play football all day then ride back again, then do the same th next day during th summer. then you get a car and gt knackred after a 30minute stint
Mr Sam Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 i know exactly what you mean mate, all my mates had mountain bikes aswell used togo upto a mates farm to play footy, a good few miles up a very steep glen road.....great fun on the way down mind
Durham Fiesta Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 me and a few mates rode bmx brakeless for a while, which in durham isn't a good idea as there are loads of hills. Went flying down a road one day and a landrover pulled out and my mate smacked straight into it cos his shoes wouldn't stop him. Soon put brakes back on after that
Mr Sam Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 i only had a front brake most of the time, buckled the rear wheel and i had a max daddy tyre so it rubbed quite a bit
orionmojo Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 PMSL durham fiesta we've all been there though i had a m8 do exactly th same thing. i'v always had at last on brake, its part of my repertoire to ithr snak to a stop, or pull a sick stoppie only inchs from either, your mates back wheel/a wall/ some dog shit/ some fit ladies.
Durham Fiesta Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 usually rode with a rear brake but took them off when was riding trails to try to learn to flow a bit more. All this talk makes me wish i hadn't sold it now
Daveyboy20 Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 Ive got a well good little bmx but i buggered it up I wasn't happy with the taughtness of the chain so put some sockets down the pegs and loosened the 'axle' pulled the wheel back hard as poss and tightened it but i tightened it too hard and stripped the thread Shouldnt mess with them really they work fine before i fook them up!!
