Still a welcoming sight, got picked up by one back in 1972 after a stupid car driver (maybe in a ford) knocked me of my motor bike,

I don't think they were much more than vans with sirens back then

Yup, and driven by a driver, with the medics waiting back at the hospital.

Mike ... perhaps you could persuade them to have one now as a kind of show car for good public liaison or something

Gotta be better than this piece of junk we have. Mountune tuned ST, 300bhp just sits there spinning its wrong (front) wheels. Torque steer is horrific too. Much rather have the mk2.

I remember when growing up in Essex the police had what only seemed to be fords, I remember mk2 cortina, either 1500 or 1600 gts, and southend police even had several unmarked cars, pretty boring escorts but their was a gold anglia, with a lotus engine! But as bad boy youths of the day driving around in our mk2 cortinas we knew all the unmarked cars! Happy days.

Don't get me all misted eyed, I remember the Senator/Cavalier SRi days, getting a Senator sideways on my Traffic Course was a hoot, but not maybe not what was expected or required. Blind brow with a 90 right in the dip and the road you saw straight on was a farm drive, (Escape road? What escape road? I was brought up on Escorts) Happy Days.

Also remember as kids our dad would drive over to France to a campsite for a week of tent erecting, but I remember that Kent Police cars were always really good, jags and even mgb. But you still can't beat a good old jam sandwich cortina in Southend!

The normal focus is a great car. The mountune one is horrendous to drive. Suspension too harsh, clutch is a bitch and too much power through the front.

I'd still quite like to have a try

Compared to today's corsas and astras they all look good fun, the bmws and audis are a bit of a hoot on the road, they all get used and abused though, the state I've seen some 14 reg bmws come into the workshop hahaha
